AoY Podcast #149 – Birds of Prey & Sonic The Hedgehog Review
Also known as: “Jonn sees bad movies, the podcast…”

Here’s our massive bundle of comic book films that were released back in February that are now coming out, to help with those Covid blues that you probably already saw on streaming services because its not like anyone is going to the theaters soon. Here is Sonic The Hedgehog and Birds of Prey!
(0:00 – 28:50) Review: Birds of Prey – Before anyone thought that a theater would be shut down due to people getting sick, Jonn spent his February getting sick from watching a film like Birds of Prey, and had many things to say about it. There is some standard off-the-cuff talk but we pretty much stay on topic.
(28:50 – 1:09:20) Review: Sonic the Hedgehog – Here is a film that Dustin believes was written the same time in the 90’s as that badly done Super Mario movie that no one wants to remember, even with big names like Bob Hoskins and Dennis Hopper (who both passed away in the past decade.) Surprising to Jonn, it wasn’t that bad of a film, and there is no reason for people not to see it on streaming sites, which the finger is pointing at Dustin since he’s writing this paragraph out right now. This also includes how even Chris Chan thought of the film, Timbox at Nite, how bad the Teen Titans Go movie is, and Cartoon Network rants.
(1:09:20 – 1:45:30) Closing Remarks – This goes into how Dustin bought a firearm at a local gun show, and how going to one is the best WW2 museum the NRA could ever pay for (which recently we celebrated 75 years of VE-Day). This also goes into the standard political realm of gun control talk, politics, the best damn antique show in Texas, and much more!
Music Selection:
OP – GOTTA GO FASTA
ED – EVERYBODY SUPER SANIC RACIN, GOTTA KEEP YOUR BUTT AT HOOOOOOME!!!
This show has:
Darn good Timbox material…
AoY Podcast #115 – General Discussion Part II: The Hurricane Cast
Also known as: “…AND THAT COMBINATION WITH SEXISM IS WHY I NEEDED TO WRITE THIS POST!”
Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 02:31:24)
So, its been 4 years since we titled our last episode as a “General Discussion” episode, so we figured it’s time for a sequel episode, longer and (un)better than ever! Of course, this is coming out after Hurricane Henry and during Irma, so it’s pretty fitting to release this episode in this manner. This time we are joined by guests Josh and Daft to talk about bad animated/live action movies like Batman and Harley Quinn and Death Note.
(0:00 – 1:19:30) Something of a Review: Batman and Harley Quinn / Death Note – We figured we can just bundle this into one segment with everyone crapping on the live action Americanized Death Note and Batman and Harley Quinn. This comes with discussing what “really” constitutes as rape, how Bruce Timm needs to come clean and make animated Batman porno films, the changes made in Death Note, talking about the Defenders show, Jonn moving back to Poseidon’s Revenge on Texas, and much more.
(1:19:30 – 02:31:24) Closing Remarks – Here the hosts dive right into Dustin banning from Toonzone after over 11 years of (dis)service, the symposium of a pure autistic post on Toonzone, Toonami speculations of upcoming shows in the future, anime on Kickstarter, Gundam dubbing talk and a bunch other nonsense.
Music Selection:
OP – Were gonna “Pod” you like a Hurricane…
ED – Did we mention this came out during a Hurricane…
This show has:
And that’s the end of that chapter…
For those of you who don’t know what a “Dr. Quinn” is…
AoY Podcast #114 – Robotech: The Movie (w/ Grant the Thief)
Also known as: “LOTS OF GUNS, LOTS OF SHOOTING, LOTS OF ROBOTS, NOW THAT’S A CANNON MOVIE!”
and also: “This is Megazone 23 Rebuild… (You Cannot Macek)”
Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 02:21:55)
After a long time coming (that no one asked for), the podcast covers one of the worst greatest blunders of Robotech history; Robotech: The Movie: The Untold Story. This time the podcast is greeted by Robotech fan Grant The Thief.
(0:00 – 1:23:40) The Untold Review: Robotech: The Movie (ie, Talk-About-Robotech-Than-This-Crappy-Film-For-Over-An-Hour-And-Twenty-Minutes) – No the headline isn’t lying to you guys, Dustin, Jonn and Grant really did talk about other Robotech stuff than this film. Think about it, if the hosts really “did” talk about Robotech: The Movie, this podcast would have been really short, and who wants that? Before ever going into trying to summarize the wikipedia article of this film, the hosts just talked Robotech from property rights, fandom and silly crossovers throughout Robotech lifetime. This also gets into discussion on Harmony Gold properties (like that Captain Harlock dub), who Carl Macek really is, how people forgot how to draw Robotech officially, how anime being shown on television has changed for the better and much more.
(1:23:40 – 02:21:55) Closing Remarks – Dustin and Jonn bring in the verdict for the Rise and Crash of KidsClickTV, Grant brings in how great Lupin the 3rd is, Dustin being a panelist at Electric City Comic Con, Cartoon Network shows, crazy Robotech podcasters, and how breaking up with your fiancee is hard to do. All this and more in this weeks episode.
Music Selection:
OP – Why can’t I be saaaaaaaved, from Harmony Gold!
ED – The future is looking grim for Robotech, oh wait, that’s nothing new…
This show has:
I hope the rest of this gets on TV for real…
“NOW THAT IS A CANNON MOVIE!” – Carl Macek
AoY Podcast #113 – Wonder Woman Review
Also known as: “The Armenians are taking over Man!”
Download Episode HERE! (Total Time:2:09:43)
So this is after 4th of July, but we’re still wanna celebrate the red white and blue on the best DC movie in the past few years, Wonder Woman.
(0:00 – 1:00:13) Movie Review – Wonder Woman: Both Jonn and Dustin saw the recent DC Cinemoviematic Universe film and thought its probably the best film DC has done since the Nolan Batman films. This of course doesn’t start happening till about 18 minutes in because Jonn talks about how Armenians hacked his iPhone, and also includes a brief history lesson on the German Empire, terrible Superman comics, the Megyn Kelly/Alex Jones interview debacle, Starzan S is out on Bluray in Japan, and upcoming movies.
(1:00:13 – 2:09:43) Closing Remarks: Jonn talks about bad CGI films from Video Brinquedo, A man sneaks into an all female showing of Wonder Woman and survives, people who play Minecraft and freak out when their mom calls them, Trumps tweets sound like sitcom characters and Korean cartoons talk. Dustin mentions his root canal woes, doing panels at a local con coming up, crap to buy from ebay, organizing a local church video game tournament, the SNES Mini talk, bad Gundam fan films made in high school, a brief stint on the Transformers film, and a ton more.
Music Selection:
OP – The best DC theme song of all time
ED – The Space Thunder Kids Fan Club Theme
This show has:
(Against my better judgement, everyone and their mom can now witness these terrible Gundam fan films after being in my box of VHS tapes for almost two decades – Dustin)
The next great DC film waiting to happen guys…
Oh man, greatest CGI animation of all time right here guys!!!
AoY Podcast #97 – Suicide Squad / Killing Joke Review
Also known as: “I’VE NEVER SEEN WILL SMITH BOUNCE A BULLET OFF OF A WAVE!
Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 2:25:20)
This time the gang is back in the pits of the DC comic book villain detention center, as hosts Dustin, Jonn and Daft go head to head with the Suicide Squad.
(0:00 – 1:21:51) Movie Review: Suicide Squad – I’ts been a while since we covered the DC spring release of Batman v. Superman, but it seems DC still wants to make sure it’s fans are keeping up to date on what is going on. Despite the hosts differing opinions on the film, one thing seems to be certain for what really DC fans have wanted for so many years on the big screen; and that’s to see Harley Quinn. Regardless of what the critics might say about the movie, even including us, we seem to think this movie is still going to make a lot of money at the box office. Of course with usual fare, Dustin, Jonn and Daft set up shop at the old abandoned podcast watering hole to ramble about comic books in general, how we are using the Slack to replace Skype (bout FREAKING TIME AMIRITE!), upcoming comic book movies, how Dustin feels that Suicide Squad might be part Cyber City Oedo (but not really), Deadshot would lose to Golgo 13 and much more.
(1:21:51 – 1:58:04) Movie Review: Killing Joke – After playing the Alan “Grand Wizardman” Moore theme song, it seemed to be the perfect transition into Jonn and Daft review of the Killing Joke DC animated movie. The review mostly went into what DC does and doesn’t do best when it comes to adapting comics to film, along with more comic book gripes and praises.
(1:58:04 – 2:25:20) Closing Remarks – The gang unwinds from this DC cinematic trip by Dustin talking about Electric City Comic Con (not Emerald City, my bad guys), the group giving commentary on the Olympics, Dustin joins a DoD:S clan, Sports talks, people on social media, and much more.
