AoY Podcast #149 – Birds of Prey & Sonic The Hedgehog Review

Also known as: “Jonn sees bad movies, the podcast…”

And also: “Your not gonna be able to adapt to the 21st century!”

Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 1:45:30)

Here’s our massive bundle of comic book films that were released back in February that are now coming out, to help with those Covid blues that you probably already saw on streaming services because its not like anyone is going to the theaters soon. Here is Sonic The Hedgehog and Birds of Prey!

(0:00 – 28:50) Review: Birds of Prey – Before anyone thought that a theater would be shut down due to people getting sick, Jonn spent his February getting sick from watching a film like Birds of Prey, and had many things to say about it. There is some standard off-the-cuff talk but we pretty much stay on topic.

(28:50 – 1:09:20) Review: Sonic the Hedgehog – Here is a film that Dustin believes was written the same time in the 90’s as that badly done Super Mario movie that no one wants to remember, even with big names like Bob Hoskins and Dennis Hopper (who both passed away in the past decade.) Surprising to Jonn, it wasn’t that bad of a film, and there is no reason for people not to see it on streaming sites, which the finger is pointing at Dustin since he’s writing this paragraph out right now. This also includes how even Chris Chan thought of the film, Timbox at Nite, how bad the Teen Titans Go movie is, and Cartoon Network rants.

(1:09:20 – 1:45:30) Closing Remarks – This goes into how Dustin bought a firearm at a local gun show, and how going to one is the best WW2 museum the NRA could ever pay for (which recently we celebrated 75 years of VE-Day). This also goes into the standard political realm of gun control talk, politics, the best damn antique show in Texas, and much more!

If you guys thought that COVID-19 would silence us, think again! We’re a little late but no big deal. Dustin and Jonn are joined by the great Mass-Hole himself Daft to talk about X-Men: Dark Phoenix and a ton more stuff…

(0:00 -22:45) Preshow Jibber Jabber – Dustin and Daft catch up on talking about stuff before Jonn hops on the call. This includes topics such as artists at anime cons, where to get sweet anime T Shirts, toy talk regarding Daft Punk figures, Evangelion pops and the James Bond figure Dustin got a while ago.

(22:45 – 02:18:18) X-Men: “Up-In-The-Air” Dark Phoenix Review talk – This is just one giant blender of different topics that contains a hint of X-Men: Dark Phoenix. We all do talk about that film, but its in between the Star Wars Episode 9 thoughts, incest undertones in Star Wars, READING OUT LISTENER FANMAIL!,  the cancellation of Interspecies Reviewers anime by Funimation, Star Trek talk, comic book/movie/Kevin Smith talk, Peter Fay tweets and RIP to Kobe Bryant and Kirk Douglas of of course much more.

Excuse us for being a bit late in kicking off 2020, but a new decade is upon us to discuss finishing out what we spent part of a decade talking about, which contains Star Wars and Watchmen talk…

(0:00 – 14:20) Review: The Watchmen Episode 9 – There really wasn’t too much to say on this episode, other than it ended rather nice compared to how it first started. This also goes into how time works in dreams which somehow leads to Inception being discussed.

(14:20 – ???) Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Review – This film was a pretty good way to end a film trilogy, which both Jonn and Dustin agreed. Dustin can also assure the audience that Disney is going to do what it does best; milk and screw over the golden calf beyond what it’s willing to give, because that is the Disney way to do things. We also throw in some side banter about how John McAfee likes big butts, and sure as hell won’t lie about that.

(??? – 1:27:47) Closing Remarks – This bleed into our Star Wars review at some point so its hard to say when it starts, but this gets into how Jonn confused Tom Clancy with Clancy Brown, both hosts game reviews of Zelda: Links Awakening and Final Fantasy 8, how putting test in video games is an incredibly stupid thing to do (because you’re gonna cheat on GameFaqs like what Dustin did in FF8), fan translation in games, Timbox renames his Tim Zarus movie, how Timbox and Gatomatt should team up on making a film, Dustin embarks his talk while in Texas to see family and names out landmarks and how Google Maps works, Plans for Dustin to run 3 Rivers Texas, and much more!

Music Selection:

OP – NINE NINE NINE NINE!!

ED – Here’s hoping you’ll find me in somewhere in Texas soon…

This show has:

For dudes only, because the McAfee knows whats up!!

Yea sorry kids, no anime themed Christmas episode this year… But HEY! Who needs that when you got more Watchmen talk right! Jonn and Dustin were pretty pleased by this episode overall and give our thoughts regarding the “creation” message behind it (if you wanna call it that.) Things get deep as we talk about creationism, the bible, counting in binary and roman numerals, forgiving people in comic books, trashing on the new Xbox Series X system, Shenmue talk and much more. Closing remarks get into Dustin seeing Char’s Counterattack in theaters, live action Disney properties, Dustin thoughts on Jumanji 2 (its freggin 3), Timbox twitter feed, Wonder Showzen and much more!

Music Selection:

OP – Christmas ATHF Style! / Theme Song

ED – And the Watchmen is on HBO, everybody needs to look away…

AoY Podcast #146 – WeebGiving Special (Ghost in the Shell: SAC/2nd GIG, Primal, Dragonball Super)

Also known as: “Your dog is a Gremlin?”

In true AoY podcasting tradition, when episodes keep piling up, it’s time to bundle them all together a-la Thanksgiving Special! Were gonna give you listeners a 3-in-1 Bundleru special with Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Dragonball Super, and Primal!

(0:00 – 01:04:00) Serving #1: A Stand Alone Complex (sorta) Review – Everything in this write-up was written sometime last month, but better late than never. This review is more of a revelation on what Dustin has been missing out on for the past 15 years by finally getting around to watching both Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series. We cover what we can remember of the show, so expect there to be some spoilers afoot. This also gets into where in the hell Jonn was recording from in GodKnowsWhere, Texas, how Smore and their treatment of Galaxy Express 999, how Hash is a terrible Southern Delight, LIVE USER FAN MAIL!, and much more…

(34:20 – 45:40) “Hold On! I’ll call your right back!” Music Interlude – Jonn spirit journey was cut short and he cut out from the call, so DJ ZeekDaPhreek steps up to play 80’s metal music like Judas Priest and W.A.S.P.

(01:04:00 – 02:02:07) Closing Remarks 1 – This consists of Dustin saying goodbye to a very close friend, RIP Robert Axelrod, SouthEast Gaming Expo talk, changes in podcast hosts over at the ANNCast, #KickVic court discussion, how AniTubers are trash and much more…

(02:02:07 – 02:59:50) Serving#2: The overly late Halloween Special that is now a Thanksgiving Special – Primal and Dragonball Super – Primal is by far the best thing Tartakovsky has done, although Samurai Jack fans will beg to differ with that statement, but screw em! After discussing how great of show with the least amount of episodes shown so far, we then go into DB Super with a longer amount of episodes show that still had a good story in the end. This also goes into Dragonball in general and much more!

(02:59:50 – 04:15:04) Closing Remarks 2 – This includes the #KickVic/WeebWarz saga, Dustin part of Bmar Ghost Trolling Colab 3, Middle East politics and politics all around, Trolling AOC at a Town Hall, The American Moloch religion, Timbox new movie script Tim Zarus, Jonn internet acting crappy, Bible/Catholic talk and much more!
