AoY Podcast Bonus – Bad Gundam Fanfilms (by Dustin)

Also known as: “…The ghost of Robert Osborne possessing your tape…”

Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 59:19)

This is just a quick bonus to put out there till the next episode comes out. Against the judgement of Dustin and Jonn, both decided to do a commentary track to Dustin crappy Gundam Fan Films he made in high school between 2001/2002.

It’s pretty simple to set up, just click on the links below to pull up the movies, and play the podcast episode along with the video for the commentary track. Of course you could just watch the uploaded commentary tracks that are already on our Youtube channel to enjoy, because why put in the extra work. The audio of the commentary track is out there as a podcast episode in case no one wants to spend one second of their lives looking at the crap Dustin made 15 odd years ago, and he wouldn’t blame them.

Just like the podcast, this commentary track goes off topic on things like what was said at the SDCC 2017, comparing quality to Gatomatt videos, a brief history of Gundam in America, Home Movies, Dustin house in Apex, North Carolina, and much more.

Music Selection:

ED – BAM, OH MY GOSH… is this recording?

This show has:

First Commentary Video

Second Commentary Video

Much better Fan Films than what Dustin made…

The ghost of Robert Osborne lives on through Dustin’s tape…

The right title card with the wrong spelling of words…

The old Apple computer Dustin took from high school that was used as a Federation stronghold…

Where once Gundam fan film magic happened, is now the Apex Peakway…

SUPER REALISTIC BATTLE DAMAGE SPECIAL EFFECTS!!

The greatest place to put in establishing shots to move along the narrative…

AoY Podcast #75 – Taking on Indiegogo Perks #2 (Patlabor 2: The Movie Review)

Even though (Pat) Labor day weekend was earlier this month, we made sure to celebrate it the right way here on this podcast. We decided to bring in our other Indiegogo contributor Cody Billings to cover the highlight film of the Patlabor series, Patlabor 2: The Movie.

(0:00 – 49:45) Indiegogo Perk Review – Patlabor 2: The Movie – This was recommended to us by Cody, which couldn’t have happened at a better time during the year. Patlabor 2, depending on how much you like Patlabor, is considered by the few die-hard Patlabor fans out there as one of the best in the series. To even go as far to give its director Mamoru Oshii credit, this might be one of his finest anime movies. You can also listen in on our old review a couple of years back about Patlabor: The Movie from our days at the CyberNauts Cast. Patlabor 2 is able to tackle the social and political troubles of Japan during the early 1990’s by cleverly packaging them into this movie story and plot. Zeonic has used this film as a reference in more than one school project, which he used Brian Ruh book, Stray Dog of Anime: The Films of Mamoru Oshii, in his Contemporary Art class last spring in order to dive into Oshii complex narratives in his films to fully understand what the director is trying to say. This gets us into discussing more of Oshii works, the UNTAC, Khmer Rogue and 2-26 incidents, works of Peter Marinker, Oshii use of biblical scripture, and more.

(49:45 – 1:17:53) Closing Remarks – We all seem to have closing remarks in this segment, even our mascot has something to say. Jonn mentions the latest with Love_That_Goku, Chris(tine) Chan goes to OmegaCon, Zeonic discusses Metal Gear Solid 5, Cwcki bashes an old school project of Zeonic, Cody mentions him coming Straight Outta Compton, more hot air about our backstory episode (and maybe a secret code involved?), the TRUTH behind the Artist of Yaoi Podcast, Cody getting the best edition of Naruto, and much more!!

Music Selection:

OP – Let’s roll out once more SV2…

ED – Chris…. you can’t…. just stop…

This show has:

Just let this conversation mull over in your mind for a while…

AoY Podcast #73 – Taking on Indiegogo Perks #1 (The Legend of Black Heaven Review)

Also known as: “Hard Rock TO SAVE TEH SPACE!”

Download Episode HERE! (Total Time – 55:30)

Hey, remember when we used to do anime reviews? Yea, the gang vaguely remembers doing them also. But hey, were back on the anime beat, and this time we start to cover those Indiegogo perks we promised at the early part of the year. This time we got a request from Sean Ryan from the Alpha Counter podcast to issue us the most rockin anime out there, The Legend of Black Heaven.

Again, we don’t need no time codes for this episode, since it was Zeonic and Sean sitting in the middle of a back ally hallway of the Marriott late Saturday night during Animazement. This is also where frequent con goers and hotel staff kept coming by us during the recording, which was near the most desired restroom in the entire hotel mind you, so you’ll hear zingers of that at the end of the episode. The Legend of Black Heaven is an anime Zeonic has always heard good things about over the years, and finally had the chance to watch and thoroughly enjoy this OVA. Even though Black Heaven is more relatable to people reaching their Logan’s Run age expiration date and beyond, anyone can pick up this title and enjoy it, wither you are musically inclined or not. This would also be this podcast second review of anime based off music, since our first one was about To-Y 2 years ago. Of course, you can expect some “sidebar” discussions about anime Terry Crews, talking about music in general, how american football is really “handegg,” Masters of the Universe movie synopsis, and Zeonic gets the hiccups. All this and much more in this this weeks episode…

Music Selection:

OP – Get ready to go backstage with Zeonic and Sean

ED – The moral of this anime is, don’t start a band…

This show has:

Dunno why Zeonic first thought of anime Terry Crews was in Friday After Next, but that is how his pimp mind works sometimes…

And you wonder why the Japanese have a hard time understanding Americans…

In general, AMV’s are the worst way to promote a show to make someone think it’s going to be great. However, this AMV is an exception, just go see Black Heaven already.

Per request by Sean Ryan…

AoY Podcast #71 – SpringCon 2015 Part B (Animazement 2015 Review)

This shall be our last part of our major spring convention reports, where this time Zeonic will talk about his yearly east coast trek to the North Carolina convention, Animazement, opposite the Dixie Line from Daft’s Anime Boston report.

(0:00 – 59:29) Spring Convention Report: Animazement 2015 Part A – This convention to Zeonic can be compared to the little kid who goes to Disneyland every year. Every visit there is always something new to discover and new people to encounter, and this con is no different. Zeonic tells his tales of meeting fellow ani-twitters at the con, people who sell terrible anime themed t-shirts, anime cels, the Shinichiro Wantanabe panel playing the wrong DVD, playing Initial D in the arcade room, Anime Hell, chilling with Micheal Sinterniklass and Robert Woodhead, Vic Mignogna vs. gay people and more…

(59:29 – 1:02:14) Podcast Promo’s – If no one out there believes that Alpha Counter holds any power in the anime industry, then you should know that their review of Mysterious Girlfriend X came out the same week as Vertical Inc announcement for the manga. Conspiracy?… you bet Sherlock. Daily Anime Podcast is still on the Legend of Galactic Heroes episode synopsis reviews, and it won’t be too long before you can own your copy of the entire series. Dave and Joel just recently put out an episode, except it’s not about Jojo’s this time, but vidjer gaemz.

(1:02:14 – 1:32:23) Spring Convention Report: Animazement 2015 Part B – This is where Zeonic gets into the “real” fun of Raleigh N.C. during the convention, where the ultimate destination is to get liquored up in secret bars across town, only to go hang out with your best podcast bud to record Indiegogo perks and show up to dating panels ran by immature high school kids. This also the part where Cloud starts to constantly sneeze for some reason, how dealers put in noise complaints over band practice next door, spending time helping friends out in the dealers room, the book in question I got signed, and where to get the best burger at a Wendy’s on the way home…

(1:32:23 – 2:04:46) Closing Remarks/The Nintendo 3DS Troubleshooting Podcast – Here we got into talking about us once again, doing an episode about our backstory, which mark my words will happen one day. Also, we find out that Chris(tine) Chan sprouts some bullcrap about how Sonichu’s are born and how he/she breast are now speakers at raves, meeting random drunk people on the streets of Raleigh to talk about anime with (and how Charlotte dun give a fuk!), and how we decide to waste time finding out our friend codes on a Nintendo 3DS, plus just talking about Pokemon for no reason. All this and much more in this weeks episode…

If you want to know our Nintendo 3DS friend codes as we so casually spoke upon in our closing remarks, here they are in this post for you to join us if you care to do so:

Zeonic: 2638 2954 5455
Jonn: 1435 4307 2269

Music Selection:

OP – ANIMAZEMENT ERRAYTHAN!!!

ED – And that is going to conclude our Nintendo Tech Support Podcast, tune in next time…

AoY Podcast #50 – Lisle Wilkerson Interview

Also known as: “DOOOORIIIIEEEMOOOOOON!!”

Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 59:06)

The day has finally come, where we make our 50th Podcast episode. And what better way than to do a recorded interview with a video game voice actress like Lisle Wilkerson. You wanna know something else, this was recorded 3 months ago at the end of May, and we still have a back log of recordings. At least it shows that we will not run out of content anytime soon…

(0:00 – 59:06) Interview: Lisle Wilkerson – We are humbly joined by the voice talent behind the recent voices of Christie Monteiro and Sarah Bryant in the most recent games of Tekken and Virtua Fighter (oh yea, don’t forget about Shenmue 2 now). Of course, to anyone who plays those games, it’s hard to focus on the voice behind the 3D model that is countering your attack for the tenth time in a ranked match (remember Joy in Shenmue 2? Yea, DON’T FORGET ABOUT SHENMUE 2). We of course ask Ms. Wilkerson questions on how she was able to get her foot into the door of video game voice acting, what is the voice acting world like currently,  what it was like growing up in Japan, working with Bill Murray in Lost in Translation, chatting about her works in video games (like Crazy Taxi and OF COURSE SHENMUE 2!!), being in fixed boxing matches, the current life of Calf., her upcoming (really past) con schedule for this year, and old school anime talk. All this and more in this episode…

The terms Lisle used in this interview for the Japanese language inclined:
Hafu (ハーフ)
Kikokushijo  (帰国子女)

Anime titles that are fond of Lisle and that we even mentioned to her:
Candy Candy
Attack Number 1
Aim for the Ace
Doreamon
Hello Kitty
Gunbuster
Space Adventure Cobra
Ashita no Joe

Music Selection:

OP – I am just making sure… no one forgets about Shenmue 2

ED – Bring this song back when Crazy Taxi 3 ever gets made…
