AoY Podcast #94 – Comic Book Movies Dump (X-Men, Deadpool, TMNT Review)
Also known as: “Sugoi, Jackson-san butto!”

There was a massive influx of comic book movies in the past few months, and we have decided to just cover them in one fell swoop. So this is gonna be our backlog of comic book films podcast! This week we bring back former guest Josh on the show with Dustin and Jonn.
(0:00 – 1:35:50) X-Men Apocalypse Review – We kick off the movie podcast block with Jonn and Dustin mentioning that X-Men might be the best (and probably the only best) comic book movie this year. Other than both hosts giving their thoughts on the film, they both diverge into off topic ramblings like the video game, comic book and anime dvd collectors markets along with some other stuff. This gets into part 1 of our closing remark territory where we mention Jonn trip to Phoenix Comic Con, one of our listeners confronting Bennett the Sage at FanimeCon, all around trash talking TGWTG, and how to be smooth with the feminists on twitter (i.e., you never win those arguments).
(1:35:50 – 3:12:43) Jonn and Josh Movie Review – Once Dustin takes off, Jonn and Josh talk about Deadpool, TMNT Out of the Shadows, and Josh thoughts on Captain America: Civil War. Part 2 for closing remarks is basically how Jonn tells Josh bullcrap litigation deals from the “investors” of Toon Radio, Ghost and True Captitalist Radio ramblings, lolcows of the internet, and much more.
Music Selection:
OP1 – Here come the heroes, to save the world from destruction…
OP2 – We gotta mention that X is gonna give it to yea…
ED – Turtle Power!!
This show has:
Evan Dorkin explains the hard truth of the collectors market in three comic panels…
Ani-Twitter at its finest…
AoY Podcast #90 – Takahashi v. Tomino Round 4 (Fang of the Sun Dougram / Garzey’s Wing Review)
Also known as: “Are we going to have to do the Kool Koreans Kartoons Podcast now?”
and also: “YOUR DEMOCRATIC VIEWS KILLED GRANDPA!”

It was high time we got back into the clash between the anime director titans of their day, where the gods of mecha anime Yoshiyuki Tomino and Ryouske Takahashi are still at each others throats to see which mecha director is better. This time, after a long absence, we return with Fang of the Sun Dougram and Garzey’s Wing.
(0:00 – 57:15) Takahashi PUNCH! – Fang of the Sun Dougram Review – Takahashi may not have done well in the last round, but he is quick to jump on his feet with another hard hitting mecha anime, Dougram. Since Jonn watch the show over a period of time, and Dustin taking the easy way out of sticking to the compilation film, this is more of a Jonn review. We go into the political intrigue of world building, faction fighting, and top tier anime buttholes in this 1983 classic. The gang talks about the hype of what robot anime brought in the 1980’s with Dual Magazine, comparing the struggles of Dougram to the American Revolutionary War, the first anime to have someone literally die of lung cancer, comparing and contrasting this with Gundam series, Aura Battle Dunbine DVD talk and much more.
(57:15 – 59:04) RightStuf! Promo – This was a quickie to throw out there to let our listeners know of the cool sales that happen on RightStuf website all the time. This time its a Funimation sale till god knows when (or really when RightStuf says so), so take in those offers while they last.
(59:04 – 1:38:54) Tomino KICK! – Garzey’s Wing Review – If there is one thing that is consistent with Tomino, is that his way of wanting to have complete control of a series and run it into the ground. Dunbine might have its issues, but trying to add onto that series over 13 years later can only lead to a bland and beautiful disaster (I gotta stop using songs as anime description puns – Dustin). This title also has a reputation for being “that” bad anime, and after sitting through all three episodes in one sitting, it was more than enough to convince our reviewers. This also brings us to talking about Star Wars movies, Dustin impressions with Bakuon! and knowledge of napalm from an ex-girlfriend, plus much more. We also mention that during this recording, we celebrated two holidays in one podcast review of Garzey’s Wing, with May the 4th Be With You and Cinco de Mayo!! Where on the internet are you gonna find another podcast that covers two holidays in the same episode? Nowhere, THAT’S WHAT!!
(1:38:54 – 2:34:59) Closing Remarks – I think our hosts spent about an hour on closing remarks, but it comes from three different times trying to do them. Due to internet issues and Garageband acting like a punk, both hosts got to air some issues out on the recording. Issues like how Donald Trump is the GOP king shit of the world, what makes women beautiful, Ghost talk and his racist personas on the airwaves, the whitewashing issue on Ghost in the Shell movie, how the Koreans took over ToonRadio.net, anime this season, politics talk, and so much more. See you next time!
Music Selection:
OP1 – We enter a world of galactic political intrigue…
ED1 – Dougram is the Exodus of mecha anime out there…
OP2 – This song is like its anime, its full of danger and its dull…
ED2 – Lord Holy Warrior, you got spooked by that dumb sky beast…
Finale – Happy belated Cinco de Mayo everyone…
This show has:
Ghost is gonna be after you “ANNE-NAH-MEE” sick twisted perverts…

Here is part two of our Toonzone AIM chat history, without any edits.. This is kind of a brief description on what you might find in this episode, which is still more talk about people we know online and more dumb stories to boot. We even mention how we killed off Notaku Diaries long ago. If you want to know what podcast we had Peter Fay on, it was this Peter Fay Episode from the last podcast Jonn and Dustin did before the AoY Podcast (plus, we also found some Peter Fay Internet 1.0 stuff on an old Gargoyles fansites). Next episode will consist of real content, which will cover comic and anime cons that happened recently, so stay tuned.
Music Selection:
OP – We do a whole lot more mocking in this episode… be forewarned…
ED – The Greatest Hits from Karl Olson…

AoY Podcast #52 – The Angry Black Video Lagoon Gaming Nerds! (AVGN: The Movie / Black Lagoon Review)
Also known as: “TerminMAIDer… Ter-min-maid, AHHHURHURRR!!”
Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 1:45:34)
It has been a long while since the Holy AoY Podcast Trinity were able to come together and review a movie and a show in one episode (actually this might be THE ONLY TIME EVER!) We are once united with our overly quiet podcast co-host Josh, as we get to discuss the most recent Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie being released online, and give our feedback on the moral misgivings of dumbass internet forum debates about Black Lagoon.
(0:00 – 49:27) – A Non-Anime Movie Review: The Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie: The trinity was needed to discuss the lifetime project of James Rolfe and his angry endeavors of reviewing old video games on the internet, which then lead him to achieve the ultimate goal of turning all that hard work into a movie, which is a lot of hard work. So, like everyone else on the internet, we wanted to give our say on his hard work over the past few years. Of course before we get into any of that, we decide to rant about water issues in the West, the deep rooted forum stupidity behind Toonzone.net (aka, Zeonic becoming a Class A Cyber Criminal one lame post at a time), which then leads us to talking about the film. We decided to approach the film with us talking about the parts we liked (aka some Spoilers you know), and really reviewing the character of The Nerd and his evolution throughout the years on the internet. We also discuss how we first got into The Nerd, which in turn gets us into our roots a little on how we got to know each other online. Dare I say a podcast origins episode might turn up one day? Well, you’ll just have to wait and see about that.
(49:27 – 52:30) Podcast Promos: With Alpha Counter making the funding goal on their Indiegogo page, we figure we owe it to them to play a promo for them. Dave and Joel seem to be releasing more episodes recently than they have in the past few months; because with JoJo’s and Destiny out in force, they are there too get on that beat. Speaking of releases, The Daily Anime Podcast decided to recently release their review of the To Terra movie, which was just Jeff talking about the film for 20 odd minutes, since I know he read the manga for a while.
(52:30 – 1:45:34) The Toonzone Debacle: Black Lagoon Review: Due to the dismay of one particular internet forums opinions (keep reading past the post on the link if you dare), we unite the trinity once more to discuss the recent end of the airing of Black Lagoon on Toonami. Our opinions are mixed on this show, as Zeonic believes that it might be the greatest show to air on Toonami in its entire history, and believes anyone who opposes that idea is a “pansy female reproductive organ.”Jonn on the other hand is not all in alignment to Zeonic Toonami prophetic enlightened views, and Josh just cares about how many BEEPS the show got on TV. We decide to not spoil too much on the show itself; and use the flames of war, cast by a Toonzone Mod unbeliever, to discuss the human, psychological and moral viewpoints of the world in Black Lagoon. Maybe we are giving this show too much credit, but then again, maybe not enough (only because deep down, Zeonic believes Black Lagoon is the best modern day anime equivalent to a 1990’s Manga UK dub.) Care to weigh in your opinion listeners? This also ends with us discussing Zeonic panel plans for BanzaiCon, how we successfully trolled ToonRadio, and much more.
Convention Note: If anyone is going to BanzaiCon in a couple of weeks, you have a chance to see Zeonic continue to spew his anime nerd knowledge upon the masses of Naruto headband wearing, Hetalia flag waving, Titan slaying anime nerds that will be present. On Saturday from 6 to 7pm, Zeonic will show his Robot Anime Openings of the 1980’s; which will showcase openings to mecha anime, and even some that made it to the states. Then on Saturday from Midnight to 2am is the cream de la cream to what all panels want to aspire to be, and that is the “WHAT THE HECK?” MOMENTS IN ANIME: THREE TIMES THE MISCHARMED!! It is essentially the closest thing BanzaiCon has to an Anime Hell at this point, and people must know THE TRUTH behind what anime is really about.
Music Selection:
OP 1 – The underlining theme song to the true nerds out there…
ED 1 – Pretty sweet film Nerd, i’ll give him that…
OP 2 – Get ready to get drawn into the underworld…
ED 2 – What I imagine is on Revy playlist next to the M.D. Geist OST…
This show has:
“The graphics are so good, you’ll commit SEGACIDE!!”
Chinglish is totally Zeonic new waifu…
What 20 years of a fallen government and war can do to a person…
Now, just imagine everything you heard, were beeps. And that’s this show guys…
AoY Podcast #39 – Get in the Zone! Megazone 23 The Third Review
Also known as: “HARD ON TWO, JACK OFF YOUR HARDWARE!”
And also: “EayJay da game, YOU PROMISED!”
Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 1:26:11)
Well, our March Megazone Madness has come to an end (aka UConn won for those who don’t care about NCAA basketball). One might imagine the joy of ending an OVA trilogy such as this would be a moment of happiness, but all we can tell you is we are just glad the nightmare is over. With two great OVA titles under the Megazone 23 name, you might figure making The Third one would be a greater achievement. Well, we found out the hard way, as Zeonic, Jonn and Josh crawl out of the ruins of Megazone 23 The Third.
Time codes (yea, we had to use these again)
0:00 – 19:05: We pretty much do our usual fare again, by getting off topic since it has been more than 3 weeks since we last recorded something. We deviate off the ZONE by talking about Space Ghost Coast to Coast airing on Adult Swim April Fools Special and the episodes that we happen to see in a half sleep trance, people we know online who watch terrible shows and takes forever to get to their point, and the problems of modern anime fans taste in shows.
19:05 – 1:05:25: We finally decide to talk about our subject matter in this podcast, because the nail had to be re-hammered into the Megazone coffin once more. One has to wonder, how can someone royally screw up an anime series after making 2 other anime OVA’s that were not complete and utter crap? Does anyone know the answer to that? If you do, please enlighten us. This dull Shadowrun/Last Starfighter knockoff has some good ideas, and has things I like; but that feel over the edge and beyond Zone Zero with the mistakes we will mention in this episode to finally close out this classic OVA series. You can expect HARD ON’s, C(U)MING FROM THE REAR, floppy disks, redneck friends, cat ear girls, the 80’s accessories, and how too HACK DA PLANET!!!! at 2 frames a second. We also throw in Homosexual/Anime Con Sign Discrimination, why Aramaki gets to keep making anime, and a few other things.
1:05:25 – 1:26:11: We also finish things up with our final remarks about people who don’t have their priorities in order, people with crazy 9/11 conspiracy stories, and the ongoing legacy of Love_That_Goku. All this and more, as usual.
Those who have tread in this Zone before us:
Anime World Order
Music Selection:
OP- I am so ready to beat my Hard On ladies…
ED – A (not so) farewell to an OVA that was almost there…
This show has:
I try and demonstrate how to be like Eiji in Megazone 23 The Third (alcohol was involved in my decision.)
As illustrated by Doomstink, there is a potential future for the floppy disk to rise again.
HOW CAN ANYONE FORGET THIS FINE SUPERB ANIMATION THAT MEGAZONE 23 HAS TO OFFER?
