AoY Podcast #164 – Hathaway’s Flash / Book of Boba Fett Review

This show has: “…There’s nobody else in my (…) space suit, why do I have to wear a mask?”

Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 2:10:54)

So you thought it might be another couple of months before our next episode, well we’ve come to prove you wrong! We got a double dose of content in this batch with our review of Hathaway’s Flash and The Book of Boba Fett.

(0:00 – 44:55) Opening Remarks – Somehow “Ok so let’s start talking about Gundam” turned into a hodgepodge of closing remark material to kick off this episode. But hey, its all good. This gets into probably the podcast no one asked for that requires a YouTuber to give commentary on, the Shenmue anime that is on Toonami, differences of electrical outlets in different parts of the world, video gaming talk, Dustin having the ability to watch whatever he wants to on physical media, coming back around to Sol Bianca, Discotek media releases, crazy girls online, how to promote 90’s nostalgia for GenZeerz, minor Chris Chan talk and a few more things.

(44:55 – 1:28:04) Review: Hathaway’s Flash – So far this is the best Gundam to happen to Gundam in a decade (minus Unicorn probably). For a film that came out last year that is adapting a book from 1989, both host find great promise in where this story is going to lead the viewer in the next two films. This gets into The Great Reset talk, politics in Gundam, an upcoming re-enactment of what Dustin believes Bright Noa is going to do to Hathaway, anime releases on Bluray, the world of Crowdfunding, Dustin first thoughts on Bean Bandit Kickstarter release, and much more.

(1:28:04 – 2:10:24) Review: The Book of Boba Fett – Both Dustin and Jonn were very impressed with the latest Filoni series by Disney+, and both go into detail on what they liked and didn’t like about the series that has been properly named The Mandalorian Season 2.5. This also gets into Star Wars canonical debates, general Star Wars talk, Dustin fouling up once again on who is going to win the Super Bowl, WILL THERE BE ANOTHER PODCAST WHEN WW3 STARTS?!?!, and much more.

Music Selection:

OP – It’s actually a pretty good Gundam…

ED – “I’m getting back my ‘vette, cuz im Boba da Fett!”

This show has:

40 years later…. and that barrier is still broken from Episode 1…

AoY Podcast #163 – Spiderman: No Way Home Review

This show has: “They became the hipsters, that’s their next stage of evolution…”

And also: “Let’s Scooby Doo this sh!t!”

Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 1:37:59)

Our first recording of 2022 that is now coming out much later than originally sort-of-planned. In this episode Dustin and Jonn talk about the latest Spiderman: No Way Home and recap Netflix Cowboy Bebop.

(0:00 – 1:17:09) Review: Spiderman: No Way Home – Seeing how well this film did to cap off 2021, Dustin and Jonn give their input on the film. This also gets into talking about the different Spiderman actors over the years, both recount watching the Toby McGuire Spiderman films in the early 2000’s and comparing how those have evolved since then, Hot Topic, dead retail companies, audio errors, Matrix 4 talk and much more.

(1:17:09 – 1:37:59) A glance at Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop series – Not really much into closing remarks but can be counted as such, when most of the talk was first impressions by Dustin on how he felt about the Cowboy Bebop adaptation on Netflix. (Well do a proper review of this in due time, maybe).

Music Selection:

OP – Here comes the Spiderman once again!…

ED – The Bebop sitcom we all really wanted…

This show has:

Dustin trying to explain the ending of this film to this level of confusion…

Dustin thoughts on the Live Action Bebop show…

Faye does make a pretty good Elaine…

And also: “Look, the Millennium Falcon go ‘buurrr'”

After waiting for a long amount of time, Dustin and Jonn give their thoughts on the latest James Bond flick No Time To Die.

(0:00 – 1:20:10) Review: No Time To Die – After numerous delays due to the Covid and the unseen future of movie theaters for the past two years, both Dustin and Jonn get to see the last-for-certain-maybe flick of Daniel Craig as James Bond. Both had a great time with the film, and bring up many questions that the film laid out for the viewers with the biggest one: What will happen to James Bond in the future? This also goes into knife dealers at anime cons, the terribly comedic Leprechaun films, more Covid talk, Jonn seeing My Hero Academia in theaters, James Bond talk in general, Dustin winning Goldeneye on VHS in the 90’s, toxic comic culture, X-Men cartoon reboot, Star Wars, Adult Swim schedule talk and more.

(1:20:10 – 2:00:21) Closing Remarks: This was a majority of our thoughts on the at-then Rittenhouse trial and how our guess on what would happen were dead on. This gets into the death of Lowtax, Chris Chan talk and much more.

Music Selection:

OP – Adios, Mr. Bond…

ED – The Ballad of The Rittenhouse….

This show has:

Just think, there’s 8 movies of these in total…

AoY Podcast #161 – Con Report 2021 (AWA 2021 / Arizona Toy Con)

Including: “…And now when she tells me ‘sa dan desu’, I’m guessing that she rather just forget you…. uuugghhh”

With 2021 bringing back larger conventions again, Dustin and Jonn talk about their experiences with Anime Weekend Atlanta and Phoenix Toy Con.

(0:00 – 1:08:28) Convention Reports 2021: Jonn hits the ground running with what he did at Phoenix Toy Con the same time Dustin was at Anime Weekend Atlanta. While Jonn was getting great stuff like Bloodstained on the Nintendo Switch and other great comic goodies, Dustin was getting his moment in the spotlight with a grand AMV win at the VAT Exposition contest along with an award at Youmacon AMV Contest all at the same time. Both get into topics about Marvel films, Covid guidelines between the two conventions, things we bought and #LetsGoBrandon. Dustin goes extensively on how his Initial D and B.A.D. panels went, navigating the horrendous Atlanta 285 construction/World Series traffic, meeting industry peeps like Carl Horn, picking up import games of such anime series at random, sleeping at different places with different peoples cats, reading off crappy Evangelion poetry, playing Initial D Zero in the arcade, seeing Tiffany Grant again, Anitubers who rant against AWA because of questionable panels, and much more!

(1:08:28 – 1:59:39) Closing Remarks (i.e. more Chris “Jebuzz Sanix blu hart” Chan prison letters) – This is really self explanatory, this is how we spent our time Reading. These. Letters. Anything with other politics was very brief.

Music Selection:

OP – Future seems to express how I treat such mask policies…

ED – The number one song on iTunes, or was…

This show has (CONVENTION PHOTOS!):

Evangelion thug life…

AoY Podcast #160 – The Golgoween Special (Golgo 13(1973) Review)

Also known as: “Sonichu Died for your Sins!”
And also: “His way of cleansing is banging everyone else’s mom!”

Download Episode HERE! ( Total Time: 2:19:54)

For our Halloween special, the AoY crew decides to give a proper send off to the late Takao Saito by reviewing the first adaptation of Golgo 13 to film back in 1973.

(0:00 – 46:35) Ken Takakura Shoots and Scores! Golgo 13 Review: We figured the best way to honor the late Saito is to review the earliest Golgo 13 manga to film adaptation back in 1973. This would be Jonn first time seeing this film, and Dustin’s second time. Dustin has even written an article online about this film during his days in college, which can be found here. It’s has also been nearly a decade and two podcast series ago since Dustin and Jonn talked about a Golgo 13 film in a podcast episode, so its good to dust off the old M-16 once again. This also contains the psyche of Golgo 13, firearms talk, Crying Freeman, James Bond and much more!

For those headed to Anime Weekend Atlanta 2021, Dustin will be hosting The Wide World of Initial D: A Comprehensive History and That B.A.D Panel (Bad Anime Dubbing) on Saturday, October 30th back-to-back from 3:15 to 5:30pm. We hope to see you there!

(46:35 – 2:19:54) The cesspool that is always Closing Remarks: This includes Richard Epcar early acting roles on Street Hawk, anime on the Sci Fi Channel, the cheezyness of Descendants of Darkness, TV ratings, RIP shoutout to Norm MacDonald, the current status of the COVID vaccine, Chris Chan is the second coming of Jesus, Batman ’66 discussion, The Troubles and European politics, Yaz adapting Cucuruz Doan Island to a film, anime we’ve been watching like High Speed Galvion and much more!

Music Selection:

OP – NO ONE CAN MAKE THAT SHOT!

ED – If only Chris Chan was the Superstar he thinks he is…

This show has:

The official Ken Takakura kill count!

RIP Norm….

Ideally this should be the header image… but probably best that its not…
