After a 15 month absence, Zeonic and Jonn decide to bring back the anime directing champs of their heydays and put them and their shows back into the podcast cagematch for yet another bout. Our last featured bout was showcased back in Podcast #24, were we had Tomino’s Ideon pitted against Takahashi SPT Layzner. This time, we bring out the political western big guns for another match of Takahashi vs Tomino Round 3. This time we got Combat Mecha Xabungle against Gasaraki.

(0:00 – 50:42) Review: Combat Mecha Xabungle: This was a recording done back in early November, where Zeonic FINALLY got around to watching the Xabungle Graffiti compilation movie. And like the usual fare, Zeonic watches a bad compilation of something, while Jonn (being the one who watched the whole show) has to sit Zeonic down and tell him where the compilation made its mistakes in telling the story, which was a lot of areas. Of course even with Zeonic watching a raw compilation movie, he still enjoyed all the zaney moments that made it mostly entertaining, such as how the anime doesn’t give a damn about animoo physics, wild west amnesty laws, anime staffers who didn’t do their jobs in coloring, little girls who explain the plot for you, and Megas XLR way before Megas XLR. We should note, as usual, Jonn and Zeonic start the podcast off by not diving into Xabungle, but talking about the ending of the Naruto manga and those who marathon them on ANN, which leads to the end about Chris chan and “Shovel Mechs,” Miyazaki films, and much more.

(50:42 – 54:06) Promos: Since we realized that promo’s for other podcast haven’t been featured in a while, we decide to inform you about other podcast you probably should already know about. Anime World Order recently released their 2nd review of the Shinji Aramaki Captain Harlock movie (which we covered back in #51). Fast Karate for the Gentleman did one recently about them still watching Jojo’s, because they are the only two men alive that this show is made for. Jeff from the Daily Anime Podcast decided to release two episodes in one day, which were about Legend of Galactic Heroes and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. And lastly we got Alpha Counter, who seems to be covering a lot about #GamerGate, because they are the right people for the job without them sounding like extremists on either camps of that following.

(54:06 – 1:50:16): Review: Gasaraki: This part of the recording was recorded back in September, meaning this has been in Zeonic external HD backlog for a while until Xabungle got reviewed. But to Zeonic viewpoint, much like the show, the recording should have taken a long slumber and never have been disturbed. Zeonic even wonders if Gasaraki might be the next big anime sleep aid to anime insomniacs out there, much like how Odin: Photon Space Sailor Starlight has been the cure for otaku insomnia for years now (but were still waiting on the hard facts to back up that claim). This show is full of people being locked up in rooms, clone facilities in the middle of nowhere, wandering in the backwoods of Japan, NERV somehow existing, street wars in South Central Akihabara, pimping out your Koga mech, and unneeded food sanctions. This prompts Zeonic and Jonn to mention political issues at the turn of the century like Kosovo, Jonn mention of Wag the Dog, middle eastern history, and how Gasaraki must be a parallel universe to our own?

(1:50:16 – 2:25:45) Unnecessarily “Longer-Than-Usual” Closing Remarks: This might be, on record, the longest time we have spent on closing remarks. This of course came with an agenda, which was Zeonic doing something for Alpha Counter, which may have been a bad decision? Regardless, the real meat of this discussion is the Alpha Counter vs DAPDX Indiegogo Campaigns, general issues with crowdsourcing, mentioning the disasters of DashCon and MineOrama, knowing a bit about our past, Dasuki and Discotek talk, and much much more.

As an extra bonus, click the text for the giant pastebin of Jonn and Zeonic conversations over AIM while they were watching Gasaraki.

AoY Podcast #48 – SpringCon Report Pt 1 (NashiCon 2014/Video Game Discussion)

Ok, so here’s the deal guys: This con was back in April of this year, so almost 4 months ago, and Zeonic is NOW getting this report out towards the end of the summer. I am sure there was ample time to for him to put something out between now and then, but he didn’t, and he really doesn’t care. Zeonic can’t blame this one on procrastination (well, maybe a little bit) because hey, if you check on what came out between now and April, we have had a full plate on talking about a variety of things that has happened. So without further ado, here is what Zeonic thought about Nashicon. (WARNING: THE AUDIO SUCKS IN THIS!)

(0:00 – 35:00) The beginnings of a Convention Report: NashiCon: Being how this is Zeonic 3rd year to attend NashiCon, it is an improvement from last years venue he must say. With a kicking game room done by the people who do the game rooms for Animazement, actual guest like Robert Axelrod and Lisle Wilkerson to attend this year and panels of interest to go too, this has gone up in quality to his con standards (I guess I can’t talk to much there.) This also gets Zeonic to talk about an “obscure” anime panel that he believed had anything to do with obscure anime, getting to know artist alley girls by their mention of Kawajiri anime to start a conversation with, talking about the game room, discussion of the LejiVerse, which diverts to…

(35:00 – 55:40) AN INCOHERENT SEGUE TO GENERAL VIDEO GAME TALK:  Yep, we spend this time talking about video games because we can. This went to talking about game systems, how Zeonic spent money on a Wii that is just and emulation device now, android games that lets you see the world, some youtube troll personality, Sonic talk, Shenmue discussion and probably some more. But when Zeonic went to mention Lisle Wilkerson…

(55:40 – 1:18:37) The failed attempt to finish a Convention Report: NashiCon: Both Zeonic and Jonn were able to get it together and complete the task before them, which is just more discussion of talking about people at the con and con life I guess you can say. This did talk about people with signs at the con, what Zeonic got at the con (which was talk of Cosmo Police Justy in America. Here is a link to ebay on what people want for the Justy VIZ print these days), 90’s Nickelodeon show talk, and more stuff I cannot really remember, which there was more to mention.

Links to stuff I mentioned in this episode (if you couldn’t make it out):

AoY Podcast #42 – Gundam Month The Fourth: Gundam Mixbag Special (00/SDGF/Age/Build Fighters/etc Review)

Alright, so here’s the deal guys: We decided to cut our losses and say “screw it” for this episode, as we figured it was the best plan of action to combine all of the other AU Gundam shows we care the least about and put them all in one episode since we all are gonna be busy for the next few weeks that will take us away from recording. So we decided to put the past decade’s worth of Gundam shows into one episode with Gundam 00, SD Gundam Force, Gundam Age, Gundam Build Fighters and Gunpla Builders Beginning G.

0:00 – 58:35: We decided to review in this way because most of the shows listed is stuff we have seen before, but cannot remember most of it since we do not have the luxury of time to go back and re-watch all of them. So consider what we have to say about these shows as a “condensed review,” instead of our usual fare of going into grand detail and spoiling stuff (oh wait never mind, we do that in this episode as well.) We roughly spend a few minutes on each show, but spent most of the time I think on Gundam 00 talk and Gundam Build Fighters; because Build Fighters was recent and we want everyone to see it as it’s the next God Gundam show in this current decade.

58:35 – 1:21:00: Of course, we get side tracked a bit and go into discussion’s about the people against the Viz release of Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon in general, THE GREATEST VERSION OF SAILOR MOON IN HISTORY!, AUDIO ISSUES GALORE!!, discussing some of the “comments” we have received so far on our Gundam Seed review from last week, more Gundam talk thrown in and probably other weird and stupid things as well.

Music Selection:

OP – Bandai ploy to make their market of Gunpla into a pretty sweet TV series

ED – I want VIZ to obtain the rights to this version of Sailor Moon

Bonus – THAT’S IT, WERE DONE WITH THIS GUNDAM STUFF!!!!

This show has:

The ultimate version I demand every “fan” of Sailor Moon must have in their collection

Gundam Build Fighters before Gundam Build Fighters SOOOOOOONNN!

AoY Podcast #36 – Gundam The Origin Vol.2 / DBZ Battle of Gods Review

It’s been exaclty 18 episodes since we covered the first volume of Gundam the Origin manga, and for that… we have zero excuses as to why its been that long (no wait, it’s all Josh’s fault). The bigger question is, is it going to be take another 18 more episodes to get to volume 3? I am not even sure if we can be at liberty to answer that question at this time. But hey, we finally got around to talking about volume 2 now. We also get to dive into the Dragonball Z movie that came out last year, Battle of Gods, and finish things up with our thoughts on the last days of Sword Art Online being on Toonami. This episode was also recorded on the new mic I got, and as you can probably tell, I sound kinda different. I am still working out the kinks on how to make it sound, so well see how that goes down in the next few episodes (or if I just need to go back to the old USB Headset).

0:00 – 34:05: So after all this time of mentioning an episode to review Gundam the Origin Vol. 2 in our past episodes, that day has finally come. We pretty much discuss changes made in the manga from the anime series that we were able to point out and give our take on it. Of course, like usual fare, we don’t stay on topic much, not when I say that Brony’s have their own docutmentary, people who hate old UC Gundam shows at comic book places, general Gundam talk (cuz thats how we do it,) the dubs of Streamline anime, how Gundam was animated back in the day and much more. There was also an issue with a transition from us talking about Bright B(right)-slapping Amuro in the manga to getting in the middle of a discussion of Double Zeta. All you need to know is that is how GarageBand works for us.

34:05 – 1:05:20: After talking about this film a little bit on our AIM chatroom a few days before we recorded, we decided to also give our thoughts on last year’s Dragonball Z: Battle of Gods movie. For a film made almost 20 years after Wrath of the Dragon, it seems to be an all around fun movie for true Dragonball Z fans. This gets us to mostly talk about Dragonball Z in general (or really Zeonic’s recollection of a show he hasn’t seen in almost a decade at this point), how people think it’s a good idea to make a 1080p video of Gundam Wing openings, our favorite lolcow news and more.

1:05:20 – 1:43:20: While in the middle of Jonn’s closing remarks on Love_that_Goku becoming a Satanist, Josh brings up a much more pressing matter at hand than anything we have discussed so far, SWORD ART ONLINE IS FINALLY OVER ON TOONAMI!!!! We relished in our celebration to bring you our thoughts on the last 2 episodes of that god forsaken show. Of course, we called upon a man who we have mentioned his name in passing several times in the past; a man who is our source of SAO knowledge, and a man who can only be called upon as… “C.G.” (ChibiGoku). Along with SAO bashing and smashing, we discuss if Japanese might be true rednecks, VHS/VCR tech talk, what’s going on in Toonami, how we celebrated SAO last episode, how the new Robocop film is pretty good, and much more.

Next time, you can expect us to get into the zone for our March (and probably April) review of a particular 80’s anime gem.

We also want to give a shout out to Otaku Generation for playing our promo on their most recent episode.

Music Selection:

OP – After a long sleep, we awake once again…

ED – We get to rock out with a cool dragon…

This show has:

Man… this will be a great performance from Chris Sabat for sure…

AoY Podcast #33 – Violence Jack Review

Also known as: “THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!… and then he turns into a bird!”
And also: “Jonn, did I just say pot plant?”

Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 1:54:35)

This review comes with a purpose when Jonn and I decided to take on this unique title from the great Go Nagai. That purpose in mind was to take a stand on the idea of never backing down or backing out of something that certain reviewers hype up to fans for the past couple of years, only to give their fans a metaphoric “blue balls” in the final product. Because of one such review in question, Jonn and I ventured off once again in the Uncut hell of Violence Jack

Ok, here’s the real”no BS” reason why we decided to cover Violence Jack now: This is a retaliation against one Bennett the Sage/Anime Abandon at ThatAutismWitDemGlasses website, because the dude decided it would be a better use of time to do a 30 minute poor-ass-bad-white-mans-acting-drama video than to actually show any footage or go into any depth of Violence Jack for his so call “review.” So, that gigantic waste of time got me and Jonn fired up to finally sit down and talk about this anime that we have been discussing for over 2 years now (going back to our early Kool Kids Klub Podkast days.) So, its high time we give those people what they really want to hear about old Jack here, the good honest in-depth truth, spoilers, and no BS talk like we do with everything we review.

I’ll be honest, i’m not gonna force anyone to see Violence Jack. That is an anime I will say to watch at your own discretion, where no other human soul is around to view it with you. At least by watching it, you will lose part of our humanity, it just happens. Of course on that note, we mention a bit more on our dislike to the reviewers of TGWTG people, if Jack is somehow related to Wolverine, other people who hate Bennett the Sage, the fans of Bennett, people who make mistakes, birth rates in other countries, Go Nagai anime in general, how AVGN is a cool dude, how you should have gotten Golgo 13 from the RightStuf sale, I say Do Svidaniya to Mikhal Kalashnikov and much more.

Music Selection:

OP- The sound Jonn and I heard once again as we departed to Go Nagai Hell…

ED- The last song you will ever hear before your disembowelment…

This show has:

Meet the tourettes gang leader…

WE MEET AGAIN, CAPTAIN BUTTWIPE!!!!
