This is going to be our closing bit for our latest Takahashi vs Tomino Round 6 episode where we discuss Wings of Rean, and then a much better anime where Jonn talks about Super Dimension Century Orguss.
(0:00 – 42:45) “Take these broken anime Wings” of Rean Review: Dustin and Jonn finalize their review of this anime stinker classic by Yoshiyuki Tomino. We would like to take credit that we maybe the second anime podcast out there that has covered this show below Anime World Order review in 2017, but who can say (other than a simple Google search but we ain’t doing that). This will conclude another directors battle episode since 2019, and the long (non) awaited sequel to Garzy’s Wing in our episode from 2016. We did our best talking about this anime, but alas we had to talk about other things going on that were far more interesting. Other topics include space lasers conspiracies, Tomino comment on the Jews, women in the military, RIP Lieutenant Guns, people who fund global wars and more.
(42:45 – 1:56:10) “Where is this anime going, where did this anime come from?” Super Dimensional Century Orguss Review: Listeners might take this review from Jonn as an enraged ramble about this show, but deep down we both secretly love it. Will this convince Dustin to check out the show and get it off his Bluray shelf? We shall see in a future time and place. This show is a fun ride and even funner review, and we hope we can convince you to watch it. Blended in this is our brief reviews on God Mazinger, Dual Parallel Trouble Adventure and Giant Gorg. Our blended Closing remarks include: Dustin getting his niece into Gundam, the recently recycled “What Gundam to Watch” article on ANN (and Dustin first ever forum post), RIP Akira Toriyama and Toonami.

AoY Podcast #172 – No Need for (a) Tenchi Podcast

This show has: “The Tenchi author is Chris Chan, but more successful…”
Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 1:59:32)
This podcast episode was recorded December of 2023 in the case that we really do release this halfway through 2024 because of reasons. Jonn and Dustin sit down one evening to really hammer home the wacky crazy universe of the Tenchi Muyo series.
(0:00 – 1:23:47) Coming back to the old crap shoot of the Tenchi World – We here at the Anime of Yesteryear podcast are good at one thing it seems; re-reviewing what we had reviewed ages ago. Dustin just recently ripped his GXP Toonami recordings and Jonn has been going down the interesting rabbit hole of the Tenchi OVA’s. This gets us into Tomino series talk, if Masaki Kajishima is a more sucessful Chris Chan, who is our best Tenchi girls, the FLCL remakes, general Toonami show talk, CN censorship and much more.
(1:23:47 – 1:59:32) No (real) Need for a Closing Remark – Just us talking about events at the end of 2023 like the Israel – Hamas war, our Christmas plans before Christmas, Dustin going to an Airsoft event, quick thoughts on Godzilla Minus One, remembering the legacy of JTurner and more!
Music Selection:
OP – The life of Tenchi every day…

After nearly us talking about reviewing this show for many years, the time has come for an Armored Trooper Votoms review once and for all!
(0:00 – 29:35) PreShow Votoms Talk: Seeing this as our first review of 2024 (even though it was recorded late in 2023) Jonn and Dustin finally get around to giving an over arching review of the Votoms universe. Our pre-Votoms discussion includes how we got into watching Votoms, RIP shoutout to RightStuf (our former supplier of content to review), Sentai Film and Steven Foster dubs talk, how you can watch the English test dub of Votoms on archive.org, and live action One Piece Talk.
(29:35 – 2:37:39) A War on Intergalactic Perportions – Armored Trooper Votoms Review: The time has finally come this podcast to dig deep into the Votoms universe of a series that has been in the discussions of anime mecha fandom since the 1980’s. Jonn recently watched all of Votoms while Dustin saw it ages ago and is going off his best memeory to well, remember what happens in this show. We cover nearly everything that has been made in the Votoms universe including what can be purchased from the Bluray set by Sentai Filmworks (i.e. ADV 2.0). Blended in this is our closing remarks in some form of fashion because that just how we roll. This goes into how Dustin moved into another apartment 50 feet from him back in October of 2023, what is considered modern gladiator sports, the influence of Tim Eldred in the Votoms universe, Gundam talk, Zeonic Scanlation releases Gaia Gear (a series Dustin has been interested in since the early 2000’s), Evangelion talk, that Calamity Jane kickstarter, the legacy of Tiger Electronics memories, the Speedrun Community, RIP Zippyshare, Jonn and Dustin discuss their watching of Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad, the Israeli-Hamas conflict and Ghost take on the war, and much more as usual.

AoY Podcast #170 – Conocalypse Now (Anime Blues Con/City of Memphis Review)
Also known as: “What’s yo Number?”
Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 2:52:20)
This is a HORRENDOUSLY belated con review going back to July of 2023, but better to end the year on such a con story as this. This is in all honesty of why the city of Memphis is the place it is today, and Dustin cannot tell the con story without telling his own first hand accounts in Memphis.
(0:00 – 1:23:50) “This (con) ain’t better than DisneyLand” Anime Blues Con Declassified: The goal is to get this podcast out before Dustin heads to Anime Weekend Atlanta (which absolutely did not happen), fortelling the events that happened 6 months ago, so here we go. Highlights include meeting THE Dr. Rockso cosplayer, dealing with Memphis humidity, having the WORST. CUSTOMER. SERVICE. EVER at your local Wendy’s in the hood, the overhype of Beale Street, con attendees stories, seeing your work in the anime industry in the dealers room, the last to leave the convention, going to a Whataburger, Memphis being the Piss Ally of the south, being threated at gunpoint on the road leading to Memphis, bad joke telling, going to Bucee’s in Tennessee, and much more.
(1:23:50 – 2:52:20) “They say this convention methods are, unsound” Closing Remarks – Jonn and Dustin go over talking about the story arcs of Votoms, the new Gundam Seed Freedom anime coming out, how great Beavis and Butthead is as a show, the fake coup attempt against Putin, Dustin mini-reviews Serial Experiments Lain, Ghost TCR, talk, Gundam manga, mini Momocon video review and more.
Music Selection:
ED – Absolutly right on the mark about Memphis…

AoY Podcast #168 – Anime Weekend Atlanta 2022 Con Report Bleated Christmas Special
Also known as: “‘Gundam is serious business’, no it’s not!”
And also: “The way to my heart is through Bubblegum Crisis…”
Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 2:06:05)
This idealy was supposed to come out before Christmas, then on Christmas Day maybe, but none of that happened. Dustin Christmas weekend was a s***show day to say the least. Our real Christmas special will come out on the next episode, which in turn is really our 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of doing this. 10 years of failed promises, broken dreams, lowered expectations, and somewhere in the middle of that is a review of Japanese cartoons somewhat. This time its a con report from the end of October at Atlanta, so enjoy that!
(0:00 – 1:36:45) Con Report: Anime Weekend Atlanta 2022 – Chalk it up to laziness and loss time that back to back episode releases are just more con reports, but we’ll get it right for the next one im certain! Dustin comes back to regail his tale of the major anime con in Atlanta for our listeners. This gets into his invovlement in doing AMV stuff with AMV people, winning awards at AWA, settling some issues with people, Jonn discusses what he did that same weekend that wasn’t at UwUCon, crime and drugs in our local major cities, the haters on Twitter, what we got at the cons, how Dustin is now officially an uncle, Dustin impressions with seeing the latest Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan movie in theaters since the last time he saw a Gundam film in theaters (which was Char’s Counterattack), a quick overlook at 801 T.T.S Airbats anime, Cardcaptors en espanol, how Gundam is seriouz buzinezz!, first impressions of the latest Gundam Witch from Mercury series, what panels Dustin did at AWA this year, Discotek future releases were looking forward too, the Legacy of VegettoEX, passing out in room parties on a Saturday night, get buried in KISS merch, how AWA has a line and drinking problem, and much more!
(1:36:45 – 2:06:05) Closing Remarks – Not too much to say other than addressing a few things from months ago that isn’t a big issue until we bring it up again to light. This includes our quick thoughts on the American mid-Term elections since this was recorded before Nov. 8th, Responding to a Gatomatt Video, the Return of Brick, Elon early reign on Twitter as of last month, 90’s fads, and a few more things to boot!
