In this episode, the podcast comes together on blockbuster movie sized proportions, where we are able to get us a full house “Avengers Assemble” style gang together to talk about not only one show out of this current anime season, but also to discuss the latest Avengers film. Even though disastrous internet quality tries to foil our review plans, we still are able to suit up with returning guest Daft”PunkFan”37 and VeemonJosh. Listen as we all dawn our podcast alter ego’s to discuss Kyokai no Rinne and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
(0:00 – 30:08) Review – Kyokai no Rinne: This was an anime that came under Zeonic radar a few weeks ago as he was working on his Mamoru Oshii presentation for his Art History class, because when one browses Wikipedia for Rumiko Takahashi and sees that her recent manga became an anime, one is inclined to check into it. As of this review, only Jonn and Zeonic saw the first few episodes, but it runs pretty much like a typical Takahashi show, which wasn’t all that bad really. This also leads into discussion on a leaked pilot for a Clerks TV series, how Sentai Filmworks obtained Rinne, and Takahashi’s work in general.
(30:08 – 32:01) Podcast Promo’s: Alpha Counter just released their own review of Avengers: Age of Ultron recently, and Dave and Joel continue to heat up the mics some more involving Jojo’s and other stuff. Speaking of Avengers…
(32:01 – 1:23:00) Non-Anime Review – Avengers: Age of Ultron: We’re definitely nerds over comic book movies every year, only because Marvel keeps making the films that draw in the biggest crowds. This year we get another Avengers movie, and we have our own personal gripes and viewpoints on the film. This gets us into discussing SJW style twitter comments by JesuOtaku, a random encounter with past guest ChibiGoku (which doesn’t last long), general comic book talk, Totally Spies reference, the true target demographic for comic book super heroes shows and toys, and our thoughts on the Batman vs Superman trailer. All this and a whole lot more in this episode. Stay tuned for part “b”…
Music Selection:
OP1 – Get sucked into the latest Takahashi show…
OP2 – Avengers… ASSEMBLE!
ED – This Civil War has torn us all apart…

AoY Podcast #65 – The Psychotic Nashicon Wars (Nashicon 2015/Psychic Wars Review)
Also known as: “Getting intimate with Vincent Baker…”
and also: “He punches the crap outta cancer!”

It is once again the start of Con season for the podcast, as Zeonic takes his yearly leave for this years Nashicon. Of course this episode will mark a historic landmark, as a live person enters the podcast “studio” (a.k.a., Zeonic room) to do a live recording with us. Let’s just say, we will do better next time. So, join us and our special live guest Vincent Baker from Otherworlds as we do our convention review and anime review of Psychic Wars.
(0:00 – 27:44) Convention Review – Nashicon 2015: This might be the first time ever that a con report is less than 30 minutes long, only because there wasn’t too much to gripe about. Both Zeonic and Vincent felt that the con stepped their game up in terms of getting good guest like returning champion Spike Spencer and newcomer Kyle Hebert to stop by Colombia S.C. What sweetened the pot even more was that Windjammers was available, so of course Zeonic got his fill of FLYING POWER DISK-U. We also mentioned the issues with how certain panels were ran this year, our guest Vincent discussing his upcoming game, switching out to another mic in the studio (which… wasn’t a good idea), and Vincent discussing Triad Anime Con as being a featured guest there.
(27:44 – 43:51) Interview – Vincent Baker: So this interview was conducted behind the registration booth at the con since Zeonic saw it as the least chaotic area in the convention to talk to Vincent. Vincent was able to sit down and answer some questions and go into details about the Otherworlds game, which the Kickstarter to that will be updated on this post when it gets released on May 1st. So if your interested in the game, please give him all your money (or what you realistically want to give).
UPDATE! (May 2nd): Here is the link for the Otherworlds Kickstarter, so if you want to contribute, just click here to go to the Kickstarter page!!
(43:51 – 46:04) Podcast Promo’s: Our last promo was from February, so it’s high time we do another one. Alpha Counter has been keeping current with their once a week schedule for shows, which this latest episode is about upcoming films this summer. Anime World Order recently put out an episode reviewing The Anime Encyclopedia 3rd Edition, which even our latest promo aired on their episode, so thank you AWO gang! In other big news, the Daily Anime Podcast has released some more episodes, with Parasyte The Maximum and more Legend of Galactic Heroes talk.
(46:04 – 1:16:53) Review: Psychic Wars OVA: This was an anime that Jonn mentioned in our Crystal Triangle episode, which prompted Zeonic to watch it at 1 a.m. the night before. Regardless of this anime’s flaws, it is able to tackle one issue in question that is a worldwide cause of concern, and that is how to properly cure cancer. Of course this gets us off topic to talk about how to play the Shemue games, closing remarks on Chris(tine) Chan status update, proper tooth care, and briefly mentioning Chris Chan to Vincent, which he doesn’t need to honestly know. All this and more in this weeks episode.
Music Selection:
OP – It’s bout time we jam up this con once more…
OP2 – Time to dawn on our Jesus powers to punch cancer…
ED – After seeing this anime, we are now true veterans of The Psychic Wars…

It is the day after the resurrection of the son of God for people of the Christian faith. We celebrate this time by either going to a church for the first time since Christmas, getting the day off of school or work for Good Friday, and maybe getting some bible reading thrown in for good measure. However, Zeonic and Jonn decided to keep up with tradition (starting from last year) to watch an anime with Christianity being highly misinterpreted. We look no further than the masterpiece OVA, Crystal Triangle.
(0:00 – 15:10) PreReview Discussion: This is just a way for Jonn and Zeonic to ramble on about things to empty ones mind for the Crystal Triangle holy message to be bestowed upon them. This includes Zeonic ramblings about his computer issues, while Jonn brings up the Social Justice issues about whats going down in Indiana. To be honest, it’s the hosts way of saying “Man, do we ‘really’ have to review Crystal Triangle? Ugh… let’s get this over with…”
(15:10 – 55:12) Review: Crystal Triangle OVA: It’s been a good while since we talked about older anime, so it’s high time we got back into the swing of things. Crystal Triangle seems to be “that” anime that people know about too be “that” anime. Zeonic see’s it as his 2nd worst anime of all time, while Jonn ranks it below his Pilot Candidate “low-end-yard-stick-of-crap.” It’s amazing that at one point, this anime sold on laserdisc for 120 bucks, which in today’s anime world, would anyone in their right mind spend that much for it (other than Mike Toole perhaps?). Perhaps it’s the “engrish” and “lussian” dialect in this anime that’s confused the TRUTH of God’s Message to be fully interpreted for us, which is why we couldn’t take this movie too seriously. We also mention the TRUTHful location of where the bible might be held, forums that don’t like Evangelion, Urashiman on The Anime Network, and Samurai Pizza Cats talk.
(55:12 – 1:19:39) Closing Remarks: This is the part where we look towards our “Podcast Pillars of the Holy Trinity” for spiritual guidance, where we mention the updated accounts of two of those pillars which are Chris Chan and Love_That_Goku. After knowing that Love_That_Goku feeds LARPers dirt, Jonn gives an internet account of what happened at Chris Chan recent trial, which means he’s gonna roam free for a little while longer, and how he might tie up his Gal Pals from high school. Zeonic mentions his accurate predictions off episode one of Sword Art Online 2 to be THE TRUTH, and mention about a guy who will be on a future podcast soon. All this and more in this weeks episode, see yea next time… (aka, stay tuned for the zinger at the end…)

It sure seems that were on some kinda Gundam bandwagon, with us talking about Gundam the Origin manga in the last episode, and now the recent release of the Origin anime. We figured now is the time to hit the bullseye with our bulky grey pre-One Year War Guntank before it grinds to a halt and we don’t care as much. So, let’s dive into Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin I “Blue Eyed Casval.”
(0:00 – 52:00) Review: Mobile Suit Gundam – The Origin I “Blue Eyed Casval”: It seems that when anime gets adapted from a manga source, people seem to be up in arms about the final outcome, which is usually for the worse. However, Jonn and Zeonic believe this is a pretty good adaptation in terms that Jonn has read Vol. 5 of the manga and Zeonic has not. So to Zeonic, this is all fresh to him, where as Jonn sees it as pretty accurate and better structured than in the manga. We of course start things off with the current decay of Radioshack, which then leads us to rant about current anime fans taste in anime, what is considered really “filler” in anime, diving into the “pre” Gundam universe, and how one should watch the Gundam series with Origin now being animated. Also, Colony Drop put out their initial reaction of this OVA, and it seems their viewpoint is a bit different than ours, or try a lot.
(52:00 – 1:32:21) Closing Remarks (a.k.a. more Chris Chan talk): Jonn and Zeonic spend a good amount of time closing things out with Zeonic trip to a comic book store in Athens G.A., the card game Superfight!, Marvel movie rights, R.I.P Leonard Nimoy and R.I.P USS Ranger (aka, the aircraft carrier in Top Gun and Star Trek IV), and of course breaking down the audio recording of a past love by our favorite lolcow. All this and more in this episode…

Ok, so it’s been a exactly 25 episodes since we last covered the Gundam the Origin manga. However, we’re at least was honest in that post about if it’ll take longer than 18 episodes to get to the next volume, which we clearly went above and beyond that number. However, Jonn and Zeonic are gonna double dose it for you, by covering TWO volumes of Gundam the Origin in this episode too make up some lost ground. We are also gonna keep up with tradition from last year, and that’s to read out a years worth of comments we have received in 2014 (and some of 2015 as well).
(0:00 – 50:00) Review: Mobile Suit Gundam – The Origin Vol. 3 & 4: After playing our Indiegogo intro at the beginning of the podcast, both Jonn and Zeonic tackle the South American Zeon occupied jungle of Gundam the Origin. Both co-host are able to go through both volumes by hitting the high points of the plot, but it’s all the same if someone saw the original Gundam series to begin with, so die hard fans are not gonna get offended by the spoilers we might say. Of course, this is Yasuhiko way of making sure the White Base crew knew where South America was than trying to trek through Asia to get there like in the original series. Of course before we dive into any of that, Zeonic explains to Jonn how he was still alive by battling a harsh cold, getting on tangents about television censorship in cartoons, and then us talking about Futurama seasons for some reason.
(50:00 – 52:27) Promo’s: Alpha Counter is there to remind us the dangers of today’s post-modern way of accepting Furries and how, that idea is just plain dumb. Anime World Order has been busy with putting out 2 episodes within a months time, which includes interviews with current Hobby Link Japan employee and one of the early founders of American anime fandom Ardith Carlton, as well as talking about SeHa Girls with Heidi Kemps. Dave and Joel still wanna let you know, that Jojo’s is a crazy show to watch.
(52:27 – 2:07:33) Keeping with Tradition – Reading Listener Comments: This is a tradition that we’ll continue to do on the podcast, because it’s our small appreciation to you listeners that we do read your comments, and then later read them out loud on this podcast once a year. Upon reading out our comments in 2014, we get into discussions about Gundam, Macross (and the blunders at Harmony Gold), Captain Harlock, video games and a whole lot more. This of course keeps us up with the latest Chris Chan news, Discotek Media doing their own crowdsource idea, and much more.
Music Selection:
OP – I need to let the world know, that there is a garage band dedicated to Gundam…
ED – Just letting you listeners know, our love for you is not a lie…
