Halloween is celebrated differently by people every year. So what better way for the podcast hosts to have their own different Halloween experiences than to travel to different conventions across America. This time we have Dustin spending a few hours at Banzaicon, and Jonn spending the day at Comikaze.
(0:00 – 48:49) Con-O-Ween Part 1: Comikaze at Los Angeles, California – Jonn and his dad trekked from Arizona to the golden state to hit up Comikaze. Jonn talked about getting exhibitor passes from a local comic book shop, SJW tumblr hate speech, how Stan Lee promotes himself at his own con, the differences between comic vs. anime conventions, comic book vs. video game collecting, Jojo’s talk, partied out Ninja Turtles, the wrong directors for live action anime adaptations, anime to live action talk (mostly about Akira), Demon City Shinjuku, Harmony Gold hate, and much more.
(48:49 – 51:06) Podcast Promo’s – We want to give a personal shout out to Alpha Counter, as their latest episode #150 might be their final podcast episode. But in tribute to this, Dustin brought back an old friend to wish them a proper farewell. Fast Karate should be back eventually with new stuff, but not after streaming twitch things. Anime World Order decides that their next episode is to cover Initial D (“BUT WAIT DARYL, YOU TOLD ME YEARS AGO IN A PAST EPISODE COMMENTS THAT NO ONE ON THE AWO CREW WOULD EVER REVIEW INITIAL D BECAUSE YOU GUYS ALL HATED IT!! This of course contains how to sucker convince the con staff to let you and your “panelist” partner in for cheap, playing some well deserved Initial D, guests at the con that Dustin never saw, 1990’s USA Network cartoons, Ani-Monday talk, how to give a yaoi panel some late night competition, and much more.

We figure this would be prompt and timely to release our Halloween special on the same day than for it to be later than that. As of this episode release, both host’s Dustin and Jonn are at their local conventions and will do a report on those in due time. So in order to keep up with tradition, the crew reviews Amon: Apocalypse of Devilman.
(0:00 – 27:30) Halloween Special – Amon: Apocalypse of Devilman Review: If you couldn’t tell from our spoilers from last years Halloween special (if anyone reading this even knew or listened to it), we keep up with our yearly tradition to bring on more Go Nagai Devilman goodness. We probably thought we were gonna do the Devilman TV series at the beginning of the year, but neither host owns the DVD set from Discotek, so screw it, that didn’t happen either. We pretty much run through this anime to talk about the horrors of post-apocalypse Japan, but Dustin couldn’t say to much because he didn’t want to attract too much attention to himself in his school cafeteria when this recording happened, because both hosts thought it was a great idea to record a podcast in a university cafeteria one Tuesday afternoon, to talk about Devilman of all the anime to mention in a public setting. Needless to say, he didn’t get kicked out for reviewing Devilman. We also mention how we saw this on Youtube from the worst translator on the planet, talking about what our buddy Cloud posted on our chat in the middle of recording, and how you should check out the One Pixel Jump review of Devilman as well.
(27:30 – 1:09:48) Closing Remarks: For some reason, the racist on Twitter wanted to get mad at the new Star Wars film because of their white male insecurities, which led to Jonn and Dustin talking about the Star Wars series in general. This also got them to talk about the HOT OFF THE PRESSES information of Chris Chan still not going to jail, followed by a special issue of Sonichu, our local resident fansubber gets a (TRUE AND HONEST) cease and desist notice from Funimation, our current issues with fansubbers out there, people on MAL get mad over the use of “Weeaboo,” both Jonn and Dustin talking about their Halloween convention plans, as well as Dustin panel rejection and approval issues with Banzaicon during the Halloween weekend. All this and much more in this weeks episode.

This is going to be our (probably not) final Indiegogo related review, as this time we have our contribution coming from fellow listener Cory Shwadlenak, which takes us into the Neo-Shinjuku future of Twilight of the Dark Master.
(0:00 – 38:52) Indiegogo Perk Review – Twilight of the Dark Master – This time Dustin and Jonn sit down and take in the scenes of city wide psychic destruction, followed by hitting up the local Crystal Box strip joint with some fat induced fries this anime world has to offer. Twilight of the Dark Master seemed to try and be Blade Runner with psychics in it, but offered up a bland OVA in the end. As usual, Dustin and Jonn got off topic at times with talking about Urusei Yatsura, the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure DVD controversy, general discussion about things, Parasite the Maximum on Toonami, which then leads into closing remarks…

Fast Karate just celebrated 10 years as a podcast (will we ever get there, who knows at this point), the Anime World Order podcast is now getting their reviewing content from the people off Twitch.tv, Alpha Counter still does it’s thing with anime and being politically (non)correct in their discussions, and Jeff be holding it down at the Daily Anime Podcast with episode recaps of Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Speaking of being PC…
(42:20 – 2:00:04) The Politically Socially Correctly Justice Warriors vs. Closing Remarks Segment – In the past month, lots of stuff happened, and Dustin and Jonn can’t help but to spend the other 2/3rd’s of this podcast talking about them. I know were supposed to be an anime “podcast” and what not, but when it comes to super hero movies, we can’t help but to cover them on our anime beat. This time we got Jonn and Daft covering the recent box office flop, Fantastic 4.
(0:00 – 17:35) Pre-Review Discussion – This could have been used at the end, but Zeonic just kinda let it be for this podcast. Speaking of Zeonic, he wasn’t on this episode, because he didn’t see Fantastic Four, and this recording was made before the Dragonball Z: Resurrection of F review we put out 2 episodes ago. Here we have Jonn and Daft talking about anime shows, Linkara ranting on Power Rangers Samurai, how Power Rangers sucks, popular cartoons on television now, and Dragonball Super problems.
(17:15 – 1:58:35) Non- Anime Review: Fantastic 4 (2015) – It seems that when movies have problems at the start of the development, they seem to really show by the final product. This seems to be the case for Fantastic 4, which Jonn and Daft spent the rest of the podcast breaking down scene by scene to state their issues with the movie. They go into the backstory on how the director used 4chan to vent his frustrations about the film, and even air some more drama behind the scenes. The two also discuss Marvel movies and TV series in general, and much more in this weeks episode.
We should also note, the episode is at 64kbps, so it’s going to help the file size being smaller, while lowering the quality a bit, but let us know if you can tell the difference.

Even though (Pat) Labor day weekend was earlier this month, we made sure to celebrate it the right way here on this podcast. We decided to bring in our other Indiegogo contributor Cody Billings to cover the highlight film of the Patlabor series, Patlabor 2: The Movie.
(0:00 – 49:45) Indiegogo Perk Review – Patlabor 2: The Movie – This was recommended to us by Cody, which couldn’t have happened at a better time during the year. Patlabor 2, depending on how much you like Patlabor, is considered by the few die-hard Patlabor fans out there as one of the best in the series. To even go as far to give its director Mamoru Oshii credit, this might be one of his finest anime movies. You can also listen in on our old review a couple of years back about Patlabor: The Movie from our days at the CyberNauts Cast. Patlabor 2 is able to tackle the social and political troubles of Japan during the early 1990’s by cleverly packaging them into this movie story and plot. Zeonic has used this film as a reference in more than one school project, which he used Brian Ruh book, Stray Dog of Anime: The Films of Mamoru Oshii, in his Contemporary Art class last spring in order to dive into Oshii complex narratives in his films to fully understand what the director is trying to say. This gets us into discussing more of Oshii works, the UNTAC, Khmer Rogue and 2-26 incidents, works of Peter Marinker, Oshii use of biblical scripture, and more.
(49:45 – 1:17:53) Closing Remarks – We all seem to have closing remarks in this segment, even our mascot has something to say. Jonn mentions the latest with Love_That_Goku, Chris(tine) Chan goes to OmegaCon, Zeonic discusses Metal Gear Solid 5, Cwcki bashes an old school project of Zeonic, Cody mentions him coming Straight Outta Compton, more hot air about our backstory episode (and maybe a secret code involved?), the TRUTH behind the Artist of Yaoi Podcast, Cody getting the best edition of Naruto, and much more!!
