AoY Podcast #93 – Magic Users Club OVA Review
Also known as: “You’re not required to watch every… Precure Pedicure…”
Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 1:31:05)
What better way for our podcast to celebrate the America’s 240th Fourth of July with a little bit of magic, where this time we review Magic Users Club.
(0:00 – 40:15) Review: Magic Users Club OVA – This is gonna be one of those corporate mandated anime reviews by our “Shogunate of Anime” content provider, RightStuf! This time we got a 6 episode 90’s OVA about basically if your schools Harry Potter club was sticking it to your schools anime club, with a love triangle added into the mix. Both host Jonn and Dustin give this show a fair pass, and they’ll get around to the TV series eventually to review.
(40:15 – 1:31:05) Closing Remarks – As per usual, both host talk about issues that came up in the month of May when this was recorded, which means they don’t have much of an impression over a month later, but oh well. We bring up James Rolfe viewpoints on the new Ghostbusters film and the SJW retaliation against that. We also discuss how Chris Chan wants a job at Sega on his terms, how internet piracy has changed over the past decade, our opinions on how to support the anime industry, Dustin love for Pure Pwnage, the need for comments on our site, Rotten Tomatoes is a rotten review site, and much more.
Music Selection:
OP – The national anthem for the Japanese Harry (Satanist) Potter Club…
ED – This anime magic might just have a hold on you tonight…
This show has:
Stick it to the SJW-man…
“Dear Sega, please forgive me for trying to kill your president over the blue arms, I need a job badly.” – Christine Chan
This was a long time coming for Pure Pwnage fans…
AoY Podcast #77 – Taking on Indiegogo Perks #3 (Twilight of the Dark Master Review)
Also known as: “I love fries, but they make me FAT!”
and also: “My TV was causing global warming, it had to be stopped!”
Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 2:00:04)
This is going to be our (probably not) final Indiegogo related review, as this time we have our contribution coming from fellow listener Cory Shwadlenak, which takes us into the Neo-Shinjuku future of Twilight of the Dark Master.
(0:00 – 38:52) Indiegogo Perk Review – Twilight of the Dark Master – This time Dustin and Jonn sit down and take in the scenes of city wide psychic destruction, followed by hitting up the local Crystal Box strip joint with some fat induced fries this anime world has to offer. Twilight of the Dark Master seemed to try and be Blade Runner with psychics in it, but offered up a bland OVA in the end. As usual, Dustin and Jonn got off topic at times with talking about Urusei Yatsura, the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure DVD controversy, general discussion about things, Parasite the Maximum on Toonami, which then leads into closing remarks…
(38:52 – 42:20) Podcast Promo’s – Hey, I know it’s been a while since we’ve done these things, so let’s give out credit where its due. Fast Karate just celebrated 10 years as a podcast (will we ever get there, who knows at this point), the Anime World Order podcast is now getting their reviewing content from the people off Twitch.tv, Alpha Counter still does it’s thing with anime and being politically (non)correct in their discussions, and Jeff be holding it down at the Daily Anime Podcast with episode recaps of Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Speaking of being PC…
(42:20 – 2:00:04) The Politically Socially Correctly Justice Warriors vs. Closing Remarks Segment – In the past month, lots of stuff happened, and Dustin and Jonn can’t help but to spend the other 2/3rd’s of this podcast talking about them. This gets their gears going about shows on Toonami like Sword Art Online II ending, stories of our times in high school, issues with the General Education, Star Wars Battlefront Beta/Magic Knight Rayearth video game talk, stupid internet people gossip (and Dustin playing around with the censor beeps in the recording), the colleges and their PC/Social Justice Warriors agendas, how not to introduce yourself to Chris Chan, our thoughts on how gun control should work, the mention of the Edward Hawkins Marketplace thanks to an ANNCast episode, and how to be lucky in Yahoo! Fantasy Football. All this and much more in this weeks episode…
Music Selection:
OP – Your not Blade Runner Dark Master, I hate to tell you that…
ED – SOCIAL JUSTICE 1,2,3…WHOO WHOO, I WANNA BE PC BRAH!
This show has:
Yep… that’s how this beta worked…
Yea, being a SJW is a tough hangover to get through…
AoY Podcast #67: I Love The 80’s Edition (Kung Fury & Mad Max: Fury Road Review)
Also known as: “New form of green energy: Guitar Playing!”
Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 1:30:15)
Within a months time, both the big screen and the small tablet screens have been hit with a wave of 80’s style films. If you can’t tell from the title, there is no anime in this episode, but damn, these titles might as well be. We test drive our Testarossa flux capacitor once more and decide to hit up 1985 with Kung Fury and Mad Max: Fury Road.
(0:00 – 29:48) Live-Action OVA Review – Kung Fury: This was a film that wanted to replicate the mindset, feel, and era of 1985 Miami, Florida. Maybe it didn’t hit all the right keytar notes, but it has heart for sure. Kung Fury feels more like a fun little OVA than a film, but it does have many things going for it from tracking issues, Nazi arcade robots, and even laser raptors. This segment also gets Zeonic and Jonn talking about Jurassic Park/World talk, people’s opinions over Twitch on this film and much more.
(29:48 – 32:31) Podcast Promo’s: Since we reference both Alpha Counter and Mating Habits of the Modern Geek in our next review, they both had something to say about the new Mad Max film. Also, Jeff from Daily Anime Podcast is back to do more episode summaries of Legend of Galactic Heroes talk, and there is even a twitter group watch about it that started up recently, so give it a listen.
(32:31 – 1:30:15) Movie Review – Mad Max: Fury Road: It’s amazing to believe that the last Mad Max film is 30 years old at this point, and even with all three of those movies combined, they can still hold up today. Fury Road is the absolute equation of what Mad Max is and should be about, and if it took 30 years to get to this point, it was worth the wait. This film also gets the anti-SJW gears turning in Jonn and Zeonic when they mention the differing opinions of online people, American social issues, Aqua Teen Hunger Force talk, discuss the Mad Max films in more depth, the change of Bruce Jenner and Chris Chan feminism rantings. All this and a whole lot more in this week episode.
Music Selection:
OP1 – Get ready to enter 1985… Kung Fury STYLE!!!
ED1 – It takes a True Survivor to make it in our next review…
OP2 – Guitar Green Energy is the way to go in the Mad Max future…
ED2 – Were lucky to be one of the living…
This show has:
Don’t be hassling the Hoff now…
Yep, this was pretty much that scene in Mad Max…
Adios, Hunger Force of Aqua Teens…
Hitler must have used this trick in Miami (at 1:52)…
