AoY Podcast #89 – South Carolina Comic Con / Anime Boston 2016 Review
Also known as: “MAKE ANIME BOSTON GREAT AGAIN!”
Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 3:25:56)
Well, convention season has once again started up, and your hosts are taking their journeys to cons opposite of the Mason Dixon line. Dustin decided to avoid the usual NashiCon this year to go with its closer and hands down “most impressive anime con” during the same weekend in April as Nashi, and that was the South Carolina Comic Con. We also have our returning co-host Daft and Cloud to talk about their time at Anime Boston.
(0:00 – 1:04:32) Con Report A: South Carolina Comic Con – But wait, why is a comic con considered the best anime con? Well there’s a simple answer, its because Dustin has seen the light that comic cons happen to cater to his anime needs than a local anime con cannot do. After finding a Dancouga, Iczer 1 and some other figures at the local comic con, these seem to be the holy grail of items that appeal to the old anime fans at heart than seeing the same anime bullcrap merch at these so called “anime conventions” that Dustin keeps going to over and over every year. Also, NashiCon didn’t have a schedule to meet Tony Oliver, so no way our podcast con traveler was gonna risk driving further out of his way for no solid autograph return. This was no lone journey, as Dustin was accompanied by Dori on the way to the con, so that made it even more fun.
In terms of Closing Remarks, Jonn and Dustin talked about how they put the hammer down on whiny cosplayers on the Anime Boston forum, which lead to some serious Donald Trump-like troll hijinks to burn some bridges with a con that maybe one day the hosts might go to. The legacy of ZeekdaPhreek shall live on. We also mention how Dustin got his own Initial D Arcade Stage cabinet, the return of Chris Chan and TCR Ghost, and much more.
(1:04:32 – 1:06:47) Podcast Promo’s – AWO seems to be getting over their tormented Initial D review, with their latest one being about Knights of Sidonia. The Daily Anime Podcast might have been quiet for…. a good while, still check them out. Come’on Jeff, WHERE DID YA GO? On the upside, Dave and Joel come out of their per-month retirement to bring you more Jojo’s, cuz that’s what the kids wanna hear.
(1:06:47 – 3:25:56) Con Report B: Anime Boston – This is clearly the longer part of this podcast, which makes up for the first part in lacking content. Speaking of hijinks, Daft decides to go to the con as currently-now-front runner Donald Trump to make sure Anime Boston is made great again. This also goes into detail on how Cloud’s Precure panel went, Daft going to panels like Bad Anime Bad and playing Evangelion pachinko machines, where to find food and how to get drunk the Daft way, the issue with the long lines at the con, dissing on Geek Nights, Toonami and cartoons talk and much more.
Music Selection:
OP 1 – Comic con is kinda a magical place… sort of…
OP 2 – Daft and Cloud roll into the Boston the only way they know how…
ED – Daft and Cloud take on Anime Boston the only way they know how…

Guest Spot: Whiskey Thursday 172
Whiskey Thursday 172 Found HERE!
Dustin stopped by on FightBait! Whiskey Thursday recently to basically, sit around and listen to the host talk about Anime Detour con, Dr. Who people who die at cons, and beer talk at the end. Actually, Dustin didn’t say much in this episode, but filled in bits when he had an open moment. The audio from Dustin was pretty crappy since he called on his phone, so maybe next time he will use Skype to call in.
AoY Podcast #79 – Con-O-Ween Special (Comikaze & BanzaiCon 2015 Report)
Also known as: “Dude, it’s Ultraman, you know how to say it!”

Halloween is celebrated differently by people every year. So what better way for the podcast hosts to have their own different Halloween experiences than to travel to different conventions across America. This time we have Dustin spending a few hours at Banzaicon, and Jonn spending the day at Comikaze.
(0:00 – 48:49) Con-O-Ween Part 1: Comikaze at Los Angeles, California – Jonn and his dad trekked from Arizona to the golden state to hit up Comikaze. Jonn talked about getting exhibitor passes from a local comic book shop, SJW tumblr hate speech, how Stan Lee promotes himself at his own con, the differences between comic vs. anime conventions, comic book vs. video game collecting, Jojo’s talk, partied out Ninja Turtles, the wrong directors for live action anime adaptations, anime to live action talk (mostly about Akira), Demon City Shinjuku, Harmony Gold hate, and much more.
(48:49 – 51:06) Podcast Promo’s – We want to give a personal shout out to Alpha Counter, as their latest episode #150 might be their final podcast episode. But in tribute to this, Dustin brought back an old friend to wish them a proper farewell. Fast Karate should be back eventually with new stuff, but not after streaming twitch things. Anime World Order decides that their next episode is to cover Initial D (“BUT WAIT DARYL, YOU TOLD ME YEARS AGO IN A PAST EPISODE COMMENTS THAT NO ONE ON THE AWO CREW WOULD EVER REVIEW INITIAL D BECAUSE YOU GUYS ALL HATED IT!! OH WAIT, SOMEONE PAID YOU TO REVIEW IT? NOW I SEE WHAT IT REALLY TAKES TO COVER SHUICHI SHIGENO GRAND MANGA MASTERPIECE CGI ANIMOO SERIES!!” – Inner 18 year old “die hard Initial D fanboy attitude” Dustin responding out of spite).
(51:06 – 1:36:50) Con-O-Ween Part 2: Banzaicon at Colombia, South Carolina – Across the great America’s, Dustin was taking his sweet time to get to Banzaicon, which resulted in describing what a convention looks like past 7:30 pm on a Saturday Halloween night. This of course contains how to sucker convince the con staff to let you and your “panelist” partner in for cheap, playing some well deserved Initial D, guests at the con that Dustin never saw, 1990’s USA Network cartoons, Ani-Monday talk, how to give a yaoi panel some late night competition, and much more.
(1:36:50 – 2:05:27) Closing Remarks – This just continues into Chris Chan PSA on Halloween trans talk, Dustin explains his experience with audibly reading the Lensmen series, Dustin jacks Golgo 13 M-16, book to movie adaptations, and much more.

We figure this would be prompt and timely to release our Halloween special on the same day than for it to be later than that. As of this episode release, both host’s Dustin and Jonn are at their local conventions and will do a report on those in due time. So in order to keep up with tradition, the crew reviews Amon: Apocalypse of Devilman.
(0:00 – 27:30) Halloween Special – Amon: Apocalypse of Devilman Review: If you couldn’t tell from our spoilers from last years Halloween special (if anyone reading this even knew or listened to it), we keep up with our yearly tradition to bring on more Go Nagai Devilman goodness. We probably thought we were gonna do the Devilman TV series at the beginning of the year, but neither host owns the DVD set from Discotek, so screw it, that didn’t happen either. We pretty much run through this anime to talk about the horrors of post-apocalypse Japan, but Dustin couldn’t say to much because he didn’t want to attract too much attention to himself in his school cafeteria when this recording happened, because both hosts thought it was a great idea to record a podcast in a university cafeteria one Tuesday afternoon, to talk about Devilman of all the anime to mention in a public setting. Needless to say, he didn’t get kicked out for reviewing Devilman. We also mention how we saw this on Youtube from the worst translator on the planet, talking about what our buddy Cloud posted on our chat in the middle of recording, and how you should check out the One Pixel Jump review of Devilman as well.
(27:30 – 1:09:48) Closing Remarks: For some reason, the racist on Twitter wanted to get mad at the new Star Wars film because of their white male insecurities, which led to Jonn and Dustin talking about the Star Wars series in general. This also got them to talk about the HOT OFF THE PRESSES information of Chris Chan still not going to jail, followed by a special issue of Sonichu, our local resident fansubber gets a (TRUE AND HONEST) cease and desist notice from Funimation, our current issues with fansubbers out there, people on MAL get mad over the use of “Weeaboo,” both Jonn and Dustin talking about their Halloween convention plans, as well as Dustin panel rejection and approval issues with Banzaicon during the Halloween weekend. All this and much more in this weeks episode.

OP – Only on Halloween, is the Devilman our ride and die buddy…

AoY Podcast #73 – Taking on Indiegogo Perks #1 (The Legend of Black Heaven Review)
Also known as: “Hard Rock TO SAVE TEH SPACE!”
Download Episode HERE! (Total Time – 55:30)
Hey, remember when we used to do anime reviews? Yea, the gang vaguely remembers doing them also. But hey, were back on the anime beat, and this time we start to cover those Indiegogo perks we promised at the early part of the year. This time we got a request from Sean Ryan from the Alpha Counter podcast to issue us the most rockin anime out there, The Legend of Black Heaven.
Again, we don’t need no time codes for this episode, since it was Zeonic and Sean sitting in the middle of a back ally hallway of the Marriott late Saturday night during Animazement. This is also where frequent con goers and hotel staff kept coming by us during the recording, which was near the most desired restroom in the entire hotel mind you, so you’ll hear zingers of that at the end of the episode. The Legend of Black Heaven is an anime Zeonic has always heard good things about over the years, and finally had the chance to watch and thoroughly enjoy this OVA. Even though Black Heaven is more relatable to people reaching their Logan’s Run age expiration date and beyond, anyone can pick up this title and enjoy it, wither you are musically inclined or not. This would also be this podcast second review of anime based off music, since our first one was about To-Y 2 years ago. Of course, you can expect some “sidebar” discussions about anime Terry Crews, talking about music in general, how american football is really “handegg,” Masters of the Universe movie synopsis, and Zeonic gets the hiccups. All this and much more in this this weeks episode…
Music Selection:
OP – Get ready to go backstage with Zeonic and Sean
ED – The moral of this anime is, don’t start a band…
This show has:
Dunno why Zeonic first thought of anime Terry Crews was in Friday After Next, but that is how his pimp mind works sometimes…
And you wonder why the Japanese have a hard time understanding Americans…
In general, AMV’s are the worst way to promote a show to make someone think it’s going to be great. However, this AMV is an exception, just go see Black Heaven already.
Per request by Sean Ryan…
