AoY Podcast #41 – Gundam Month The Fourth: Mobile Suit Gundam Seed/Seed Destiny Review

I know its been 3 weeks since our last episode, but that was to gear us up for the return of Gundam Month. With the ending of finals, life and other distractions hitting us (including Zeonic finding time to watch the Gundam Seed compilation films), we are here to kick off talking about Gundam shows in the past decade with our discussion of what we wanna talk about in Mobile Suit Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny.
Time Codes:
0:00 – 8:20: We waste a good portion of time discussing real issues out there like how Federal Student Loan money should be used and how our American government doesn’t know how to properly use funding as the issues that Zeonic is plagued with by signing up with ObamaCare.
8:20 – 1:55:55: Zeonic was able to do something he thought he could never accomplish, and that was to watch ALL of Gundam Seed anything. This has been a long and well forgotten road that he wishes that he could never tread on, but knew one day he would. Jonn was there to support him as they both dive into the world of new millennium Gundam alternative universe shows.
Zeonic and Jonn were able to try and make sense of a show that is the worst on the totem pole in terms of how Gundam series go, but is far from the worst anime ever made. They both talk about how they both saw Gundam Seed on Toonami a decade ago (last month to be exact) and what transpired from and after that. Along with doing that they discuss Gundam shows in general (a given of course), if both Gundam Seed series are a conspiracy by Sunrise to make other Gundam shows look really good in comparison to Seed, how Kira Yamato is anime Jesus, what is the dumbest faction to be a fan of, too many Gundams to count and much more.
1:18:00 – 1:18:49: Promo: Daily Anime Podcast – I basically “asked” Jeff if he had a promo I could put up for this podcast episode to help better promote his show that he currently runs. He was all like “uh…. I dunno man. Do I have a promo?” I then forced upon him the option to give me something soon, because in my mind, he didn’t have much of a choice in the matter. So what you hear is the product of what you can expect to hear from a man like Jeff at the Daily Anime Podcast. What he says is all truth, because it is first hand experience that they are “the realist podcast the’re is when it comes to this anime nonsense.” And if your not real like them, then your not worth their time… or mine.
Music Selection:
OP 1 – This show couldn’t invoke any emotion to me at all
ED 1 – The only ending of Seed I really only know about
OP 2 – I don’t understand how this ignited people to like this show to begin with
ED 2 – Even after all I saw, I still never got a reason why this show was liked back then…

Fake Lacus gets a mobile suit…. I am not kidding here. Just goes to show how mobile suits are just “decoration”
AoY Podcast # 40 – Belated Easter Special (Ninja Resurrection Review)
Also known as: “History Channel Presents: Christianity In Feudal Japan: The Documentary.”
And also: “WHERE YOU DRINKING BEFORE YOU WENT THERE?”

Man, when was the last time we had an episode under and hour? Well, Good Friday was well over a week ago, and so was the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ (for those who don’t celebrate that pagan bunny and chocolate egg corporate holiday.) We decided to give what we can back to the christian community on this glorious (and very late) day; by simply talking about how Christianity “really” wen’t down in feudal Japan in the most extremely (in)accurate documentary called Ninja Resurrection.
Ninja Resurrection tells the tale of how God’s chosen Japanese people rose against the Tokugawa Shogunate, by having dragons from the divine lord be summoned upon the unbelievers, having daddy issues, taking on anime Gary Busey, the crying blood Virgin Mary, and a lot of SATAN! Of course, we go off topic on subjects like convention talk, general talk on anime series that are coming out in Japan and American TV, how Christianity is portrayed in anime and around Japan, movies around the bible that are out now and a whole lot more.
Music Selection:
OP – Tenchi is the next messiah of Japan…
ED – After watching this, it’s hard for me to believe it…
This show has:
This is something you CAN show to your local church… if they got nothing against anime that is…
We need more of this guy from now on…
The greatest show ever made…
Yea… this anime has Satan/Ghost sex in it….
AoY Podcast # 38 – Get in the Zone! Megazone 23 Part 2 Review
Also known as: “WHO DID YOU SAAAAAY?! JOHNNY….WINTERS?”
Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 1:18:03)
We are still kicking it for the month of March, as we still get zoned into the madness that is the Megazone 23 OVA series. This time, we cover the maybe-once-hated, but-now-probably-not-so-much sequel to the first Megazone 23 OVA.
As Zeonic will say in this podcast, he does like Part 2 a little bit more than Part 1, only because its straight up on what its trying to tell, and it has one of Zeonic favorite anime directors doing his first directing job, Ichiro Itano. If you want to see an anime that Itano directed that won’t make you feel scared or hate anime for the rest of your life, this is that anime. This of course has bikers who are just pure Trash, rad 80’s to the max, doggy style sex scenes (I ment to say 45 seconds not 45 minutes long, sorry guys), taking down the system, and Sex Wax on your back. Of course, there is no need for time codes on this one as we do stick to the review… most of the time. Zeonic goes off the rails to mention how the new 300: Rise of an Empire movie is really dumb as far as Zack Snyder sex scenes goes, how wrasslin babes from the 80’s can do some voice acting and have cameos in this OVA, how anime dubbing has come a long way to fall flat on its face, Toonami talk in general on shows that have ended and started, and much more.

So, March Madness has come upon us. I know that is mostly related to College BeeBall, but Jonn and I cannot dedicate ourselves to a sports anime to review this time around, or really ever (sorry, but trying to watch all of Slam Dunk with no compilation movies in a month is a herculean task that is far too great for us to handle). So, we decided to keep things a bit simple, as we found our zone of focus for the next few episodes, and i’m talking about Megazone 23.
There isn’t a need for time codes this time, since we only get to focus on one anime for a change. Right off the bat we dive right into discussing pretty much everything about what is in Megazone 23 Part 1, and what we can try and make sense of in terms of the story about halfway into the OVA. We of course stray off topic (or really dig deeper) to talk about Robotech: The Movie and how that connects to the Megazone 23 anime. We also mention the other Megazone 23 OVA’s that we will get around to do reviewing (and try not to spoil too much), the differences in each of the dubs for the Megazone OVA’s, how we found out about Megazone 23, and general Robotech talk. We also finish things off in talking about people who are no longer with us that I bought my anime from, people we know on the internet, (SPOILERS) what could be our tentative podcast schedule for the next few episodes, Zeonic taking a trip to land of the rising sun, and much more.
I should also point out, I recently heard the ANN Cast episode where they interview Carl Macek. I (and the rest of the internet) are wrong as to why Robotech The Movie failed. The real reason according to Macek: Robotech The Movie did really well in the test audiences in Texas and not everyone hated it. What pulled the project was Cannon Films getting cold feet on their end and not letting it go to all the theaters it should have, plus they went under financially at the same time. You can find more info about that about the last 30 minutes of the interview.

OP – Man we totally Zoned out on this one
ED – No one in the zone sleeps alone…
This show has:
The alternative ending added to the Robotech: The Movie… you can kinda tell from looking at the video, that don’t look “original.”
All I have to do is get past the 20 minutes i’ve seen of this piece of crap…. and I will lose hope in humanity…
As I said in the podcast, it was either the Streamline version or the ADV version of Megazone to watch. I think we picked the better poison…

Shogo working towards that Garland gas money (and also thank Eve for giving us the inspiration towards that Hatsume Miku bullcrap that anime fans fap over today.)
AoY Podcast #36 – Gundam The Origin Vol.2 / DBZ Battle of Gods Review
Also known as: “That’s our, proper Macek way…”
and also: “IT’S NOT REAL, IT’S A VIDEO GAME!”
Download Episode HERE! (Total Time: 1:43:20)
It’s been exaclty 18 episodes since we covered the first volume of Gundam the Origin manga, and for that… we have zero excuses as to why its been that long (no wait, it’s all Josh’s fault). The bigger question is, is it going to be take another 18 more episodes to get to volume 3? I am not even sure if we can be at liberty to answer that question at this time. But hey, we finally got around to talking about volume 2 now. We also get to dive into the Dragonball Z movie that came out last year, Battle of Gods, and finish things up with our thoughts on the last days of Sword Art Online being on Toonami. This episode was also recorded on the new mic I got, and as you can probably tell, I sound kinda different. I am still working out the kinks on how to make it sound, so well see how that goes down in the next few episodes (or if I just need to go back to the old USB Headset).
0:00 – 34:05: So after all this time of mentioning an episode to review Gundam the Origin Vol. 2 in our past episodes, that day has finally come. We pretty much discuss changes made in the manga from the anime series that we were able to point out and give our take on it. Of course, like usual fare, we don’t stay on topic much, not when I say that Brony’s have their own docutmentary, people who hate old UC Gundam shows at comic book places, general Gundam talk (cuz thats how we do it,) the dubs of Streamline anime, how Gundam was animated back in the day and much more. There was also an issue with a transition from us talking about Bright B(right)-slapping Amuro in the manga to getting in the middle of a discussion of Double Zeta. All you need to know is that is how GarageBand works for us.
34:05 – 1:05:20: After talking about this film a little bit on our AIM chatroom a few days before we recorded, we decided to also give our thoughts on last year’s Dragonball Z: Battle of Gods movie. For a film made almost 20 years after Wrath of the Dragon, it seems to be an all around fun movie for true Dragonball Z fans. This gets us to mostly talk about Dragonball Z in general (or really Zeonic’s recollection of a show he hasn’t seen in almost a decade at this point), how people think it’s a good idea to make a 1080p video of Gundam Wing openings, our favorite lolcow news and more.
1:05:20 – 1:43:20: While in the middle of Jonn’s closing remarks on Love_that_Goku becoming a Satanist, Josh brings up a much more pressing matter at hand than anything we have discussed so far, SWORD ART ONLINE IS FINALLY OVER ON TOONAMI!!!! We relished in our celebration to bring you our thoughts on the last 2 episodes of that god forsaken show. Of course, we called upon a man who we have mentioned his name in passing several times in the past; a man who is our source of SAO knowledge, and a man who can only be called upon as… “C.G.” (ChibiGoku). Along with SAO bashing and smashing, we discuss if Japanese might be true rednecks, VHS/VCR tech talk, what’s going on in Toonami, how we celebrated SAO last episode, how the new Robocop film is pretty good, and much more.
Next time, you can expect us to get into the zone for our March (and probably April) review of a particular 80’s anime gem.
We also want to give a shout out to Otaku Generation for playing our promo on their most recent episode.
Music Selection:
OP – After a long sleep, we awake once again…
ED – We get to rock out with a cool dragon…
This show has:
Man… this will be a great performance from Chris Sabat for sure…
