After many years of putting off this series and then deciding to watch it within a week on a whim, Jonn and Dustin dive into the futuristic world of Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040. Also included is the greatest novel review you’ll ever hear about the Mobile Suit Gundam Novels.
(0:00 – 1:20:45) A Ninties ADV Cyberpunk Classic: Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 – This episode was a long time coming, and if anime were considered vintage by the standarts of automobile collectors, this just made it within the 26 year acceptance date. Our last review of Bubblegum Crisis was the OVA’s back in 2012 on another podcast we had, and you can find those episodes in our Review section. This also includes a bit of political talk, but its mostly the most glorified book review you’ll ever want to hear. This also includes our second recording to finalize the epic saga of Tomino storytelling JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT we were going to be done on the recording! With 2021 bringing back larger conventions again, Dustin and Jonn talk about their experiences with Anime Weekend Atlanta and Phoenix Toy Con.
(0:00 – 1:08:28) Convention Reports 2021: Jonn hits the ground running with what he did at Phoenix Toy Con the same time Dustin was at Anime Weekend Atlanta. While Jonn was getting great stuff like Bloodstained on the Nintendo Switch and other great comic goodies, Dustin was getting his moment in the spotlight with a grand AMV win at the VAT Exposition contest along with an award at Youmacon AMV Contest all at the same time. Both get into topics about Marvel films, Covid guidelines between the two conventions, things we bought and #LetsGoBrandon. Dustin goes extensively on how his Initial D and B.A.D. panels went, navigating the horrendous Atlanta 285 construction/World Series traffic, meeting industry peeps like Carl Horn, picking up import games of such anime series at random, sleeping at different places with different peoples cats, reading off crappy Evangelion poetry, playing Initial D Zero in the arcade, seeing Tiffany Grant again, Anitubers who rant against AWA because of questionable panels, and much more!

Probably our first real anime review since last year, but we honor the late Kentaro Miura by reviewing the 1997 Berserk anime and The Golden Arc Films.
This entire episode (or the most we can do to stay focused on talking about our topic) is dedicated to Dustin and Jonn views on the Berserk anime. There’s hardly anything for a closing remarks segment since we felt like we’ve overdone that in our last episode. This anime is personal to Dustin because he started to watch the anime the month Miura passed, let alone THE SAME DAY that no one knew about till it was made official 2 weeks later! This gets us to discuss other note while things like the Arthur PBS cartoon, our personal history in how we knew/got into Berserk, thoughts on animation issues, books vs. the film adaptations, check out a better Berserk podcast than we could ever hope to achieve, popular shonen titles, Record of Lodoss War and other fantasy anime talk, Dustin leaving Geeks under Grace with his official last article on the Initial D arcade scene, and much more!

(0:00 – 1:02:45) Review: JoJo Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders – This particular 3rd arc of the series is what anime fans have known what JoJo’s been for over 20 years at this point, and with its airing run finished up on Toonami, Jonn and Dustin get around to covering the series. This mostly goes into the arc history of marketing in the states, and to capture notable moments in the show. This also includes our own apologetic ad for RightStuf.com, Toonami shows talk, and the craziness thereof.
(1:02:45 – 1:59:00) Closing Remarks – This gets the hosts to talk about the removal of Alex Jones from all known forms of social and mainstream media, which only prompts Dustin to summon his Alex Jones impersonation stand once again. This includes QAnon talk, that Unite the Right movement near Otakon, Gab.ai threat to be taken down, internet censorship talk, Candace Owens/Sarah Jong tweets, Dustin has beef on one of his AMV’s taken down by AVEX on Youtube, and what Smash Bros characters are/aren’t gay. After about 5 months of not putting out any con coverages, Dustin thought we can just double up and OD our listeners with two major cons in one episode with Animazement and Anime Weekend Atlanta.
(0:00 – 2:16:45) Animazement 2017 Review – Do people other than this podcast talk about cons 5 months after they happen? Well who knows, but it’s coming out now finally! Of course, this doesn’t go into Animazement immediately, not when Jonn had something to say about not going to see the failed assassination of Jason David Frank at Phoenix Comic Con. Jonn also talks about the dumb weapons policies to “protect” attendees that are not JDF and Robotech. It’s still about roughly 30 or so minutes in that Dustin talks about his con experience at Animazement. Included in this review is stories of the inside world of Limited Run Games, seeing your old teenhood house for the first time in years, how Strafe is inferior to Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, nerds who fail at hitting on girls, Justin Roland stories, people who bring their cats to cons, Antifa v. Street Preachers, not seeing this years Anime Hell, the History of Animazement, meeting forum members IRL, closing remarks of Timbox/Chris Chan and much more.
(2:16:45 – 4:49:07) AWA 2017 Review – Here’s a con that happened within a month that we can get a decent review out in time. This was Dustin first time going to AWA, and based on his 2 day experience, it’s a con worth going back too. This of course comes with meeting anime fan legends like Dave Merrill, Daryl Surat, Walter Amos, Neil Nadelman, and meeting new fans while there as well. This is also another instance where rooming with another forum member makes the con a better experience, and even doing a podcast drunk with them is also fun. Included is how Hell is done at AWA, old school anime dubs, buying up anime vinyl records and playing them on this recording, and more. Closing Remarks are about how the podcast is trying to monitize, the Las Vegas shooting/gun control laws discussion (there’s a part I meant to say was an amendment but said constitution by mistake. So if you caught that, my bad), Chris Chan relationship ends (before it ever got started), Jonn squeaky chair chimes in, Final Fantasy games, Dustin owning an SNES Classic and much more!
